If Pacquiao-Mayweather happens, what’s the next step for both fighters?

By Jason Edrei Calub Santos: Everywhere I go, everybody or at least two people are arguing or talking about the most likely upcoming fight between the two most dominant fighter in boxing, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Every boxing fan out there is asking for it, as said before “a fight of this magnitude” is needed in the sport of boxing. But what would be the aftermath of a so-called mega fight?

Whatever the outcome of a possible fight would result to retirement for both amazing fighters. The winner would go on would their life as they have nothing else to prove in their era that they are the best pound-for-pound and just cherish a possible 100million dollar salary. The loser, on the other hand, should still retire. If it was Manny Pacquiao to lose, as he said, either way he would retire after one more fight probably because of possible run for politics in the Philippines. One other reason that would send Manny Pacquiao to retirement is his mother’s concern of Pacquiao’s health. Although coming out of a dominant win over Miguel Cotto, Manny Pacquiao still took a lot of punches, mainly left hooks, that caused his right ear to swell up.

Now, if it was Floyd Mayweather Jr., a major set back would be devastating and his perfect record would have one single flaw that is almost impossible to overlook. No one really knows how he would handle a defeat. All the talks of being undefeated would just slip into the wind and never to be talked about anymore. It would change the way he brings a fighter into the ring. So, what else is there to do? Retirement would be the word.
