dawson4463245336By Peter Wells: In another very interesting bout we see Glen Johnson (49-12-2) attempt to redeem himself against his latest conqueror ‘Bad’ Chad Dawson (28-0). Dawson came out on tops last time out via a very unconvincing decision. Dawson took plenty of huge booming right hands from Johnson but his quick combinations caught the judge’s eye although not all people agreed with the verdict. Dawson has since gone on to beat Antonio Tarver another 39 year old twice.

The first fight was a total wipe out, with Tarver going down very late in the fight, but after Joe Calzaghe announcing his retirement, Dawson decided he had to fight Tarver again, although Johnson was still their for a rematch. Tarver performed much better in the 2nd bout adapting a lot more to Dawson’s speed, but he still came out the loser.

Glen Johnson is the man that has been stuck in the shadows behind Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins, even though back in 2004 he brutally ko’d Jones before beating and losing to Tarver. Since the Dawson defeat Glen has came back with 2 victories, knocking out a poor Aaron Norwood, and defeating Daniel Judah after drawing with him 6 years ago. The 2 fighters were bound to meet once again in the ring and on Saturday 7th November they will go to war at the XL Center in Connecticut.

Dawson has proved his chin is solid when taking a tone load of punches from Glen last time out. Johnson isn’t even near the end of the road but could a defeat to Chad push him a step closer to the end. I very much doubt it, Johnson will know what to expect and will adapt in the ring, but Dawson won’t be willing to engage as much this time and will play the fight very carefully.

I expect the first half to be all Dawson, in-and-out work knocking the solid head of Johnson back a few times. Dawson will keep out of harms way and Johnson may land the odd jaw crunching blow but if Dawson works to the body enough in the early stages he should sail to a clear decision. But there is no doubt that Glen Johnson could cause an upset, maybe even a knockout.
