Hatton Not Interested in Khan Showdown – Boxing

hatton4542358By Shaun Campbell: Exclusive News! Ricky Hatton is not interested in a fight with Amir Khan at this moment in time. Khan who has just captured his first world title was hoping to lure Hatton into a matchup for one last hurrah. But the Hitman who has recently been discharged from hospital from suffering from a virus has said that fighting Khan is “the last thing on his mind.”

But he did show massive respect for Amir when saying how happy he was to see him win. The two are friends, but there’s no doubt if the fight ever was to happen, business would be business.

Hatton must be given time to make his decision, as he is busy with his promotional company. People must realise that it isn’t as simple as saying “yes I will fight on” or “I’m done.” It’s the toughest decision of his career so whatever he chose to do, while some people may not agree with it, everyone will support him.

For the British public, should the fight ever happen, it would be the biggest fight in domestic history. The fight would be likely to take place in the UK, possibly at Wembley Stadium. But for the moment Hatton is refusing to commit himself to the fight. He’s not made his decision on whether he will fight on, let alone who he would face. Khan has already respectfully said he would love to face his friend, describing it as an “honour” to share the ring with him. But would the fight be beneficial to Amir? Say he beat Ricky, would that be the best way to get the British public behind him? Say he lost to Hatton, his locker at the Wildcard Gym would be up for sale. Freddy Roach is a great trainer and came up with the game plan to beat Hatton for Manny Pacquiao, but Amir Khan is no Manny Pacquiao. Could he whether Hatton’s constant pressure? Could he take the body shots? Or would be simply be to fast for the Hitman.

It is unlikely that this fight will happen. Hatton has said should the fight ever happen, he would want to promote it, so that the only ones getting the money would be himself and Khan which is the way it should be. But there’s more chance of Hatton facing Junior Witter than Frank Warren agreeing to that. Warren and Hatton had a falling out after the Kostya Tszyu fight and decided to part ways. Although there was an untidy lawsuit between the two which Hatton ended up winning.

For the moment “The Battle of Britain” looks destined never to happen. But wasn’t there another fight between Hatton and a certain American pound for pound champion that seemed like it was never going to happen? Patience is needed among the boxing world. Hatton’s fans are happy to wait for him to make the right decision.
