Hatton’s aim is to be crowned the best pound for pound fighter in the world and will have his opportunity when he faces current pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao on May 2. Hatton’s trainer Floyd Mayweather senior believes that not only will Hatton win, but he’s confident his man has the tools to stop Pacquiao. “You’re going to see Pacquiao backed up to the ropes, right here”, he said.

“Mark my words Ricky is going to stop him either to the body or to the head. But more than likely he is going to stop him to the body. Trust me.” After taking on “Pac Man”, Hatton wants to take on undisputed lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and then avenge the only defeat of his career by defeating Floyd Mayweather Jr., who is thought to be considering a return to the ring after quitting the sport in December 2007, following his tenth round stoppage win over Hatton.

“If I can beat Manny Pacquiao, the world’s best pound for pound fighter, that would be sensational,” said the Mancunian. “I would like to finish the year off fighting Juan Manuel Marquez. He’s number two in the pound for pound ratings and in doing that and establishing myself as number one, I’d like to think I’d get a rematch with Floyd Mayweather”.

Hatton, however, insists he’s not looking beyond his fight with Pacquiao. “Those three fights will see me to the end of my career. But I can’t look at Manuel Marquez or Floyd Mayweather yet as I’m fighting Pacquiao. Let’s get that out of the way.”
