At the opening bell Vic Darchinyan, who had three titles on the line, (WBC, WBA, IBF) charged out of his corner in a seek and destroy mode ready to slug it out with the two-time world champion Jorge Arce in the center of the ring. Arce lunged forward several times making himself an available target in the first round and allowing Darchinyan to land his big left upper-cut. Arce was game and took a lot of clean shots but stayed with his opponent in the early rounds.

A cut developed under Arce’s right eye at the end of the first round.

Darchinyan’s straight left keep landing early and hard which made Arce look bad early on; Arce keep circling to his right which left him open for Darchinyan to land his hard left hand. Arce also was leading with his head which made him open to Darchinyan’s uppercut.

In the third round Arce got Darchinyan’s attention with a left hook and solid right that caused Darchinyan to clinch.

In the fourth round Arce found a home for his right hook that rocked Darchinyan who later in the round hurt Arce with a left hook of his own. The two fighters began to brawl in the center of the ring and the crowd erupted.

Arce would occasionally work well on the inside but when he moved forward he would lead with his head that threw him off balance. The fifth round ended with a slugfest, both men letting their hands go.

Darchinyan began showboating in the sixth round. Throughout the fight Darchinyan was able to keep his cool showing his impressive boxing skills. When Arce landed one of his wide punches Darchinyan shock it off and landed his straight left with accuracy. Arce hit Darchinyan with his best shots but barely slowed him down.

In the ninth round Arce complained to the referee about being hit behind the head. He was hit hard on the right side of his head and began bleeding from his right ear. By the 10th round the commentators had Darchinyan ahead in the fight by an overwhelming margin. Darchinyan demonstrated superb boxing skills throughout the entire fight.

The later the fight got the further apart Arce got with his stance and the wider his punches became.

By the championship rounds it became obvious Darchinyan was too strong, too skilled, too fast and too good for Arce.

At the end of the eleventh round the fight was stopped due to cuts of both Arce’s eyes. At the time of the stoppage all three judge’s cards had it 109-100 for Vic Darchinyan.

Vic Darchinyan’s record improved to 32 wins, 1 lose and 1 draw with 26 knockouts; Darchinyan was knocked out once in his career.

Jorge Arce’s fell to 51 wins with 5 loses and 1 draw, he had 39 KO’s and this was the third time he was stopped.
