Johnson: Fury is a feeble-handed guy

Image: Johnson: Fury is a feeble-handed guyBy Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Kevin Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KO’s) has no worries about getting past unbeaten Tyson Fury (19-0, 14 KO’s) this Saturday night at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Johnson, 33, doesn’t see Fury as being in his class and he seems him as a weak puncher without the track record to beat him.

Johnson said in their telephone conference call “So my ‘A’ game will really kill this dude…This [Fury] is the most doofiest I’ve met in boxing. This is the most feeble-handed guy I’ve ever seen in boxing history…When the bell rings I’m going to go and get him.”

Johnson is an astute judge of talent, and I agree with his analysis of Fury’s game. Fury definitely isn’t much of a puncher. For the most part, Fury wins his fights by throwing a lot of shots. His jab is pretty weak, and it’s not nearly as good as Johnson’s jab. If Fury wants to get into a jabbing war with Johnson on Saturday then I feel sorry for Fury because he won’t win that one.

It looks like Fury and his promoter Mick Hennessy may have made a huge mistake in choosing Johnson to replace Denis Boytsov with, because more than a few boxing fans, this writer included, see Johnson as being even better than Boytsov.

I wouldn’t expect Fury and his promoter Hennessy to be aware of how good Johnson is, because they’ve not seen much of him because he fights in the United States, and Fury has been pretty much just a UK based fighter during his four year pro career. Fury has only left the UK once during his career to fight journeyman Zack Page in December 2010 in Canada.

However, there’s a big difference between fighting the 6’0″ journeyman Page and fighting the 6’3″ Johnson. The talent level between them is huge, and Fury is going to find that out first hand on Saturday night when Johnson starts cramming jabs down his throat one after another.
