Kell Brook: I’m going to show the critics

Image: Kell Brook: I’m going to show the critics

By Scott Gilfoid: Boxing fans essentially see Kell Brook as the token lamb for IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) to slaughter on September 10 in their UK fight at the O2 Arena in London. Brook doesn’t see it that way though. He feels that he’s going to beat Golovkin, and show the critics how wrong they are. Brook also thinks this fight will show the fans that h doesn’t care about taking on dangerous opponents. He’ll do it anyway.

Like with anything, people judge a person on what they’ve done in the past. If they failed at something or if they didn’t look impressive, then they’re going to predict failure for that person. All we know from watching Brook’s past fights is that he’s only fought one good opponent in his entire career in Shawn Porter in 2014, and that he was forced to spoil all night long by holding him.

A Closer Look: GGG’s Boxing résumé

golovkin633

By Phil Chadwick: On September 30th, Gennady Golovkin (35-0) will for the first time step foot on UK soil, and will walk into a sold-out 02 Arena in front of 20,000 fans to lock horns with IBF Welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0).

Many boxing pundits are predicting an easy night’s works for the man best known as ‘GGG’, and if forced to bet heavily on this fight, I wouldn’t bet against the fearsome Kazakhstan KO artist. The smart money says GGG to win by KO, within the first 6 rounds.

Warren talks Golovkin vs. Brook fight

golovkin777

By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Frank Warren wonders how bulking up is going to help Kell Brook against Gennady Golovkin when these two unbeaten fighters face each other next month on September 10 at the O2 Arena in London, England. Warren specifically thinks that Brook could be slowed up with the added weight that he’s put on recently.

The added weight that he 30-year-old Brook has put on could slow him up on the night against Golovkin, who is quite excellent at cutting off the ring on his opponents. Brook weighed in this week at 176 pounds for the World Boxing Council’s 30-day weigh-in for the fight.

Kell Brook getting marked up in sparring

Image: Kell Brook getting marked up in sparring

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) looked bigger than usual at his recent 30-day weigh-in for his fight against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), but he also appeared to be banged up around his face. I couldn’t help but to notice how both of Brook’s eyes were bruised up from his sparring sessions. Brooked weighed 176 pounds for the 30-day weigh-in.

This is not good. If Brook is getting banged around during sparring sessions from middleweights despite wearing 16oz gloves and head gear, then it makes one wonder will happen when he gets inside the ring with Triple G. I’m just saying.

Brook’s heart will lead him to victory over GGG

golovkin-brook

By Leigh K. Seto Whether the public knows it or not Kell Brook is a throwback fighter from years gone by. It wasn’t long ago that fighters made fights not promoters. I remember Roy Jones Jr said one day I will win the heavy weight title, pundits laughed, but he did it. Roy believed in himself when no one else did.

A 5’10” fighter named Mike Tyson was beloved because he was a fearless little heavyweight that never fought anyone smaller than himself but took the heavyweight division by storm. Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Archie Moore, to name just a few successfully made the climbed through the upper divisions.

Kell Brook packing on useless muscle weight

Image: Kell Brook packing on useless muscle weight

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook is showing the boxing world how to royally mess up a title shot against the talented Gennady “GGG” Golovkin by packing on a mess of useless muscle weight in preparation for their September 10 fight at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook is almost 30 pounds heavier right now than he weighed in for his last fight against the over-matched Kevin Bizier last March. That’s a ton of weight to put on in such a short period of time.

Brook has somehow come to the conclusion that the best way for him to compete against the devastating puncher Golovkin is by power feeding and adding muscle weight in a hurry for their fight, which is only four weeks away. If this fight were a body-building or wrestling competition, then it would make sense for Brook to be bulking up for the fight the way he’s doing.

Brook will have problems keeping GGG off, says Jackson

Image: Brook will have problems keeping GGG off, says Jackson

By Allan Fox: Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) is going to have to find a way to keep unbeaten IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) off of him on September 10 in their important fight. Trainer John David Jackson, the trainer for Sergey Kovalev, wonders whether the smaller Brook will be able to come up with a game plan to keep Golovkin off of him for a full 12 rounds.

Jackson doubts that he can because of the size, strength and the pressure that Golovkin applies to his opponents. Jackson thinks that the size advantage that Golovkin will have in this fight will make it difficult for Kell. However, we learned on Wednesday that Triple G might not have a size advantage in this fight, because Brook outweighed him by 11 pounds in their 30-day weigh-in.

Kell Brook: I’m eating nonstop

1-Brook09101630dayWBCphoto

By Scott Gilfoid: Earlier Wednesday, Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) weighed in at a very puffy looking 176lbs for his 30-day weigh-in for his bout against “Triple G” Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs) next month. Brook looked bloated at the weigh-in, and he bragged afterwards that he’s eating nonstop and that he feels that he’s going to be stronger. He doesn’t look stronger unfortunately.

Golovkin is going about his training camp like a true professional. He weighed in at 165lbs today, and he’s only five pounds from his target weight of 160lbs for the fight. You’re not seeing Golovkin ballooning up in weight, because he’s treating the fight just like it’s any other fight.

Brook should be doing the same thing. It’s never a good idea to deviate from your normal training plan when you go into a training camp. If you normally weigh a certain amount, then it’s smart to stay at the same weight rather than packing on 20 pounds and then having problems moving around the ring.

Golovkin 165, Brook 176 at 30 day weigh-in

golovkin777

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell Brook came in at a whopping 176 pounds on Wednesday for his 30-day weigh-in for his fight next month against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin on September 10. Brook, 30, weighed an incredible 11 pounds more than Golovkin, who weighed in at 165 pounds.

This is pretty amazing because Brook is the one coming up in weight two divisions from the welterweight division, where he’s fought his entire 12-year pro career. The fact that Brook is weighing a lot more than Golovkin takes away a lot of the criticism he’s been getting for fighting a welterweight. How can you give Golovkin any grief if his opponent is outweighing him by 11 pounds?

Brook: I’ll do what I want against Golovkin

brook111

By Scott Gilfoid: Kell “Special K” Brook has got to be one of the most confident fighters that you’re ever going to see in the sport. Brook (36-0, 25 KOs) has never tasted defeat in his career and has looked good in blasting out 25 of his 36 opponents he’s faced thus far. Brook is about to test himself against the premier knockout artist in the middleweight division Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs), who will be trying his best to put a halt to Brook’s success.

Brook says he’ll do whatever he wants and when he wants against Golovkin. In other words, Brook thinks he’ll have the same success against Golovkin that he did against the fine opposition that his promoter Eddie Hearn has matched him with like Kevin Bizier, Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin, Hector Saldivia, Matthew Hatton and Alvaro Robles. Yes, very fine opposition indeed.
