Golovkin wants Mayweather at 155

golovin1By Allan Fox: WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KO’s) says you can add his name to the list of fighters that wouldn’t mind facing unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the near future if Mayweather were to be willing to meet him at 155 lbs.

Golovkin fights at 160 lbs, so he couldn’t come down to 147 lbs. to fight Mayweather because that would be too much weight for Golovkin to take off. However, he is willing to meet Mayweather halfway at 155 if he’s open to taking the fight.

Golovkin said to RingTV “Of course, that would be my dream to fight Mayweather.”

Should “The Ghost” be in the ring with Mayweather?

guerreo991By Mister Jackson: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s boxing record is 31-1-1, sounds very impressive to me and most when looking at the numbers, right?  Well, only two of the fights on his record are at welterweight,  Guerrero has defeated Andre Berto and Selcuk Aydin.

Guerrero should be given credit for facing the challenge of fighting in a higher weight class, because we have all seen other fighters fail when moving up in weight.  Considering the fact that Guerrero jumped up two weight classes and only had two welterweight fights, one has to question how the rankings are handled.

K9: I’d knock Mayweather’s head off!

bundrage33By Chris Williams: Former IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius ‘K9” Bundrage (32-5, 19 KO’s) got kind of worked up recently when a fan told him he felt that Floyd Mayweather Jr. would beat him if the two were to ever fight.

K9 replied back with, “I will knock his [Mayweather] head off. Styles make fights. I will destroy him.”

You have to wonder if K9 has the power and the talent to “Knock Mayweather’s head off”, then why didn’t K9 do that last month when he lost his International Boxing Federation 154 pound title to Ishe Smith.

Who’s left for Floyd?

floyd44By Jamie Hesford: Everybody has been made aware of Floyd Mayweather’s big money six fight deal with Showtime. Here I try to find another five credible opponents Floyd could face within his weight range as he is usually unwilling to fight the same person twice. These are my top 5 (in no order) and how I think they would go…

Timothy Bradley – An obvious future opponent. Two technical fighters, both follow strict game plans and are equally as fit as one another. This could be an interesting match up for die hard boxing fans and the unbeaten records could mislead most people to buy the PPV. This fight would lack any rhythm and would be like a chess match… Only less exciting. It would be slow and Bradley would win a few rounds but Mayweather emerging victorious. Mayweather SD

Canelo-Trout, Mayweather-Guerrero, Donaire-Rigondeaux preview

SanAntonio_0U9C1440_send(Photos: Stephanie Trapp/SHOWTIME) By Dominic Sauboorah: We are in for a treat this year with the fights being displayed and here they are:

Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux: This fight is a real tough one to call. You’ve got one of the best pound for pound fighters in Nonito Donaire, defending his WBO strap against arguably the best amateur boxer ever in Guillermo Rigondeaux, defending his WBA strap. Donaire will have the obvious size advantage; however Rigondeaux is a tricky customer with phenomenal defensive skills. He’s also a south paw; therefore Donaire may find it hard to land his punches against the slick Cuban. Nevertheless this fight is a genuine pick ‘em and a real good match up put together by Bob Arum. Both have speed, athleticism and power, should be a real good fight.

Guerrero: I’m going to take the fight to Mayweather

guerrero451By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) believes he’s got the magic strategy to try and beat undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) on May 4th, and that’s by pressuring him the full 12 rounds to where Mayweather can’t even breath.

It’s not exactly a new strategy because it’s been tried by most of Mayweather’s opponents in the past and they’ve all miserably failed at achieving it, but that’s what Guerrero says he’s going to try and do when he faces Mayweather in front of a sold out MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero said to Fightnews.com “You’ve got to go in there and execute your game plan, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m coming in there to dictate the fight. He ain’t intimidating me, man.”

Canelo: I’m ready to face Mayweather whenever he wants

floyd17By Dan Ambrose: Some fighters never get a clue, and they end up wasting time instead of focusing on makeable fights. WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez thinks he’s going to get a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September despite Mayweather having already said no to Canelo’s pressure tactics to try and weasel a fight with him.

Canelo said to Ringtv “I’m happy to fight Floyd Mayweather when he’s ready to fight me.”

There’s a real problem with this. Mayweather doesn’t like to face guys that have been exposed. He’ll make an exception every now and then for guys like Miguel Cotto, but it’s rare that he does this. Most of the time Mayweather prefers to be the guy that exposes fighters, because he doesn’t like to get sloppy seconds when it comes to beating a guy.

J’Leon Love vs. Gabriel Rosado on Mayweather-Guerrero undercard on May 4th

rosado2By Allan Fox: Unbeaten middleweight prospect J’Leon Love (15-0, 8 KO’s) will be facing Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KO’s) on May 4th on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Love-Rosado fight is scheduled for 10 rounds.

Rosado, a light middleweight, is coming off of a 7th round knockout loss at the hands of WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin last January in a fight where Rosado elected to move for 90% of the fight rather than trying to slug it out with the harder hitting Golovkin.

It didn’t matter though, as Golovkin was able to beat Rosado’s face to a bloody mess by hitting with hard shots each time he could catch up to him. Love, 5’10”, would have likely fared no better than Rosado, and if anything, Golovkin would have knocked Love out sooner because he’d have likely tried to slug with Golovkin instead of running.

Andre Ward: I am not calling out Floyd Mayweather Jr

ward643By Chris Williams: WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward says he has zero interest in fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr, and he’s not calling him out in any way, shape or form. Ward and Mayweather have been going back and forth for the past couple of weeks ever since Ward said he was pulling for his friend WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero to beat Mayweather Jr. in their fight on May 4th.

Although Mayweather didn’t say this was something that upset him, it kind of seems that way, as he struck back a number of times in interviews with Fighthype.com, saying that Ward can’t draw fans outside of his home base in Oakland, California, and even saying that Ward isn’t even as popular as the 23-year-old WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner.
