Ward or Mayweather

floyd43By Stevie Ocallaghan:One of the big debates that always rages on is who is the pound for pound champ. Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Andre Ward, a K brother, even Adrien Broner is now getting caught in the mix. For me No 1 has to go to Andre Ward. Ward entered the super 6, not as the favorite but as a contender. He fought and beat the best in probably the most hotly contested division out there. This is my reasoning.Ward fought and beat all the top guys, guys who were world champs and after losing to Ward, went on to be again a belt holder.

Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, who he stopped, a feat that Joe Calzaghe couldn’t do, proves the level of competition that Ward fought at. Now a lot of people will say Floyd Mayweather. Yes, he’s still undefeated but really, what makes him no 1?

Schaefer: Only 1,376 tickets left for Mayweather-Guerrero

mayweather73By Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is reporting that there are only 1,376 tickets left of the 16,000 tickets for the May 4th fight between WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) and unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to Dan Rafael.

That’s pretty impressive given the fact that the fight is still two months away. It shows you the kind of star power the 36-year-old Floyd still has. He may not fight all that often, but boxing fans are still willing to scoop up his tickets like they are hot cakes.

Floyd Mayweather’s talent goes to waste

mayweather533By Mark Calooke: Floyd Mayweather is possibly the most controversial figure of our generation. He has outraged fans in and out of the ring. But no one can deny his talent. I wouldn’t go as far as to say he is really unbeaten because like most fans, I have seen Mayweather lose. But in most of his fights he has been so far above his opponent that its shocking.

For his May 4th fight Mayweather has picked Robert Guerrero. I don’t see anyone that is impressed with this fight. It’s possible that Guerrero is the most one dimensional fighter in the welterweight division. Guerrero isn’t a puncher and hasn’t had a knockout for 3 years. I would have liked to see Mayweather face Cotto again. Mayweather did dominate that fight but Cotto did trouble him at times. That’s what fans want.

Kellerman: People want Mayweather to fight Broner

broner3By Dan Ambrose: HBO TV analyst Max Kellerman says that the number #1 fighter that boxing fans want to see face Floyd Mayweather Jr. is, believe it or not, Adrien Broner. It’s not it’s WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez like many people think it would be given Canelo’s huge popularity.

Kellerman says he gets stopped and gets phone calls from people, and overwhelmingly the fighter they want Mayweather to face is Broner. That makes a lot of sense because Canelo really isn’t well known in the U.S, aside from with hardcore boxing fans. Canelo is more popular among Mexican fans from Mexico, but he’s still building up a fan base in the U. S. Broner seems to be ahead of him in the U.S, and it’s interesting that fans are calling for a Mayweather-Broner fight.

Mayweather: How can freckle-faced Canelo give me an ultimatum?

floyd8By Dan Ambrose: WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather (43-0, 26 KO’s) wasn’t amused to see 22-year-old WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” (41-0-1, 30 KO’s) giving him an ultimatum recently in trying to pressure Mayweather into a fight with him on September 14th instead of just letting Mayweather select him the way he selects all of his opponents.

Mayweather told Fighthype.com “How can I let a 22-year-old kid, who just got into the sport of boxing, give me an ultimatum.. Man, his red-head, freckle-faced ass better just sit back and wait in line. If I feel like choosing him, I’ll choose him.”

Mayweather: Guerrero will be number 44

floyd7By Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) will be looking to pick up his 44th consecutive win of his 17-year pro career on May 4th against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) on Showtime/CBS pay-per-view, and it’s looking like Mayweather will have no problems accomplishing that goal.

Mayweather said “I do expect the same outcome for him as all of the others who have challenged me before. 43 have tried and 43 have failed. He will be number 44.”

Mayweather vs. Guerrero & Khan vs. Diaz to be shown on BoxNation

mayweather500By Scott Gilfoid: The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero fight will be reportedly televised on BoxNation on May 4th, according to the Dailysport.co.uk. This is a big a deal because it could help increase subscribers at a time where Frank Warren has lost two of his biggest fighters in George Groves and Ricky Burns.

Warren expects the subscriber numbers to get back up over 200,000. The Mayweather-Guerrero fight could help in a big way.

Anmir Khan’s fight against Julio Diaz scheduled for April 27th will a shown as well. That fight will be taking place at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, and it’ll be Khan’s first fight in the UK in three years since his mismatch against Paul McCloskey in 2010.

Mayweather-Guerrero tickets go on sale on March 12th

floyd52By Allan Fox: Tickets for the highly anticipated May 4th fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will reportedly go on sale this Tuesday, March 12th for their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mayweather, 36, will be defending his WBC welterweight title against 29-year-old Guerrero in a fight that will be televised on Showtime/CBS pay-per-view.

There’s a lot of questions about how much Mayweather has left in the tank. He didn’t look at all good last year against Miguel Cotto in winning a close 12 round decision. Mayweather said he could have boxed Cotto, and it would have been a much easier fighter.

Canelo wants Mayweather, Maravilla or Cotto in September, says trainer

alvarez1By Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s trainer Chepo Reynoso says they’re still targeting Floyd Mayweather Jr. for September 14th despite Mayweather choosing not to face Canelo on May 4th.

Canelo will have to beat WBA junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (26-0, 14 KO’s) next month on April 20th, of course, for Canelo to move forward for a bout against Mayweather. If Canelo can’t get Mayweather, then he wants to face former WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto or WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

Thurman: I wish Mayweather had beaten Pacquiao two years ago so the hype wouldn’t been created

pac87By Chris Williams: Undefeated welterweight contender Keith Thurman (19-0, 18 KO’s) says he sees Manny Pacquiao as a flawed fighter, and he wasn’t surprised when Juan Manuel Marquez knocked him out last year in December in the 6th round. Thurman wishes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. had defeated Pacquiao before a couple of years ago in order to stop all the Pacquiao mania that came about.

Thurman said to Maxboxing.com “He’s [Pacquiao] made a real nice career for himself but he is a very beatable fighter…I wished Floyd Mayweather would have beat him two years ago so they wouldn’t have created this hype. And like Marquez told everybody, he’s a little bit smarter.”
