IF Mayweather doesn’t fight Pacquiao

Dishearteningly , apparent logistical stumbling blocks have surfaced, putting the fight in jeopardy. The perception of many studious and respected analysts is that Mayweather is at fault for this, due to his own vacillation.

Despite my belief that Mayweather is a superior fighter and would win the potential fight, I share the view that Mayweather’s indecision is depriving the fans of this fight. This has been detrimental to Mayweather’s legacy, of which he cares so much about. He is undoubtedly deserved of a place amongst boxing’s historical elite, if only due to his tremendous skills.

His continued dithering has galvanized numerous vociferous fans to accuse him of cowardice; if ‘money’ opts to back out of the fight, I fear his name would forever be correlated with cowardice and indecision: his legacy tarnished and his brilliance thereby overlooked by future generations.

I am aware that Bob Arum’s claims that Pacquiao has agreed to all facets in the negotiation have insidious intent, and am certain that this is not entirely factual.

However, I am convinced that there is genuine intent to make the fight, due to Arum’s active role in rescheduling Miguel Cotto vs Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to make way for Mayweather-Pacquiao on May 2nd. Question marks remain still as to whether Floyd has real intent to make the fight. In previous instances, he has not been at fault for the break down of negotiations. In 2012, his pursuit of the fight seemed bona fide. Though currently, I believe that he knows he is slightly past his best.

Mayweather is then, perhaps the only thing that can stop the fight from happening. As I am sure you would agree, Mayweather vs. Cotto 2 would be a desultory and inexpressibly lackluster alternative to Mayweather vs Pacquiao. This eventuality must , and I stress this with abject severity, be avoided.
