Guerrero doesn’t have the speed to adapt to Mayweather

Robert and RubenBy Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) has been repeatedly saying that he’ll adapt to whatever Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) brings to the ring this Saturday night in their Showtime PPV bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero is convinced that he can adapt to anything and everything that the 36-year-old Mayweather does on Saturday to neutralize whatever strategy that he tries. I would agree with Guerrero that he could possibly accomplish this, but the problem he has in this fight involves a mismatch in hand speed, a big mismatch.

Tyson Fury dismissive of possible Deontay Wilder match-up

fury3333By Daniel Mcglinchey: Undefeated heavyweight giant Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s) has dismissed the possibility of stepping in the ring with untested American Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) anytime soon.

Tyson Fury is currently in talks with unbeaten European Heavyweight title holder Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9 KO’s) for a final eliminator to earn a shot at Wladimir Klitschko for the IBF strap.

Fury said on his social medial site: “[Deontay] has a long way to go boy. Windmilling like a b**** and knocking out an old man. Great job. Join the cue.”

GBP in talks with Cotto for clash against Canelo in September

canelo11By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions are looking to put together a fight between former three division world champion Miguel Cotto (37-4, 30 KO’s) and WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) for September 14th.

According to ESPN Deportes, talks have already begun between Cotto and Golden Boy to make the fight happen. According to their sources, the Cotto-Canelo fight could take place at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Is Amir Khan elite?

khan55By Saqib Khan: Well this question needs to be broken down and explained in parts. First of all I have written numerous articles on Amir Khan, positive articles which have been pro Khan.

The Fight with Julio Diaz was the worst performance by Amir Khan to date. There was no plan on how to approach Julio Diaz, and his jab was nonexistent. The speed was awful with no power; it was like Amir had put a lot of mass with no strength or speed. If the pound for pound rankings was based on heart Amir Khan would be number one because he has the heart of a lion unfortunately it does not but on ring general ship and the right tactics and the right fitness for fights.

Fury’s promoter turned down Deontay Wilder fight, says Golden Boy Promotions

wilder99By Scott Gilfoid: Golden Boy Promotions made a stab at trying to line up a fight between unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) and undefeated British/Irish heavyweight Tyson Fury (21-0, 15 KO’s), but Golden Boy struck out after Fury’s promoter said he had other options for the 6’7” Fury.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said to ESPN “[Mick] Hennessy was saying that they [Fury] have other options and this and that and other excuses. They were not all that keen on it. It’s too bad.”

Yes, it is too bad. What a pity. A fight between Fury and the 6’7” Wilder would easily be the biggest fight in Fury’s career and it would be the first time he faced an opponent that could look him dead in the eye in the ring instead of staring up at him three to five inches.

Mayweather: I offered Pacquiao $40 million for a fight before his loss to Marquez

pac8By Chris Williams: In an interview last night with ESPN, Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he gave Manny Pacquiao a huge $40 million offer to fight him before Pacquiao’s crushing 6th round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December, but the Filipino turned down the offer by asking for a 50-50 deal instead. The $40 million that Pacquiao rejected would have easily been the biggest payday of his career, and yet he failed to take Mayweather up on the offer.

Mayweather said to ESPN: “I called Pacquiao and offered him $40 million dollars and this came before the Marquez fight. I told him I would have his $20 million without 48 hours. He told me he wanted 50-50 and got off the phone. I’m not scared of no fighter, but where was the guy when I was dominating the sport in 98, 99 and 96?

Why Haye-Charr is actually a good thing

charr3222By Dallas: With it now clear that David Haye’s opponent for his June 29th comeback will be Manuel Charr certain quarters were immediately rolling their eyes claiming that Haye had opted for an easy opponent and that this would not make for an interesting fight. I would disagree with this sentiment.

For starters, this will be a good fight to promote and is almost the perfect bout for the Haymaker’s return. The British boxing fans are already aware of who Charr is thanks to his ‘invasion’ of Haye/ Chisora post-fight press conference, Charr seemed to handle himself well and also seemed to know what he wanted. Haye might have seemed to have been dismissive of Charr at that moment but he did make an impact.

Mayweather wants to fight in UK; Khan the obvious target

mayweather2256By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe is saying that Mayweather Jr. plans on fighting in the UK at some point in the near future. He doesn’t say who Mayweather will be fighting but it seems pretty clear that Amir Khan will be the target for Mayweather because it would be pointless for him to fight Kell Brook or the other little known welterweights and light welterweights in the UK.

Khan is the only game in town for Mayweather, but he better make that fight quick because Khan could get knocked out in his next fight if he’s serious about wanting to fight for a world title.
