Guerrero: I’m not one of Mayweather’s hand-picked opponents

Robert Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin) By Dan Ambrose: For Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) he feels that it’s important that boxing fans know that he’s not just one of the safe fights for Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) that has been selected to keep him undefeated. Guerrero believes in his mind that he’s been picked out for his talent, and not because he’s considered a slapper without power at 147.

Guerrero said on Tuesday: “For one, I’m not one of Mayweather’s hand-picked opponents. We’re not making an attempt. We’re going to come out victorious on Saturday night. We Latinos have pressure all the time. We have pressure when we fight all the time. We’re going to come out and take care of business. All you’re going to hear is ‘May Day, May Day, Guerrero’s in the ring.’ That’s it.”

Martin Murray still bellyaching about his loss to Sergio Martinez

murray64By Scott Gilfoid: Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11 KO’s) is still having a tough time coming to terms with his 12 round unanimous decision loss to WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28 KO’s) last Saturday night at the Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina.

Instead of seeing as a situation where he himself gave the fight away by hiding behind his guard for 12 rounds and not throwing enough punches, Murray is complaining about the judging of the fight.

Murray said “If it was fair scoring then I would have got the decision, but it was always an uphill battle in Argentina…there’s no way I’ll get another opportunity…I had him down twice, bossed him…I’ve proven I belong at the world level.”

Guerrero: Mayweather should get ready for the rematch right now

Robert Guerrero(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) has himself in a trance-like state where he can’t even begin to entertain the thought of him getting beaten and clowned by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) this Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Guerrero sees the win as a sure thing and not only that. He sees Mayweather giving him a nice payday rematch after he loses. It sounds like a pipedream on Guerrero’s part, but if it makes him feel better before he faces his beating on May 4th then so much the better.

Another Cart Horse against a thoroughbred is a race that will do nothing to enhance the reputation of boxing

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Rob Blakeman: This morning I dipped into my archive of Boxing on Blu-ray and watched the 2001 match between Diego Corrales and Floyd Mayweather. The fight took place at 130lbs and Floyd’s record was already impressive-24 wins, no defeats and 16 knockouts. Corrales though held an even better one being 33 and 0 with 27 K.O.’s.

This was a much anticipated fight that was being compared by many top analysts to potentially be as exciting as the battles between Leonard and Hearns! However, such was the ring generalship of the young Mayweather, in a display that belied his youth he clinically out boxed, dismantled and ultimately destroyed the previously unbeaten and bigger Corrales, (He outweighed Mayweather by 16lbs on fight night!) knocking him down 3 times in one round.

Mayweather Jr. vs. Guerrero: Will you watch Floyd fight again after he loses his unbeaten record?

Floyd Mayweather(Photo credit: Esther Lin/Showtime) By Gerardo Granados: The WBA Super World light middleweight and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) currently is the best defensive fighter of all, he is also an outstanding counter puncher but it is his personality that sets him apart from the rest of current boxing stars.

Sometimes he speaks up his mind without thinking of the consequences and there are many boxing fans who watch him fight hoping he will lose his precious unbeaten record instead of supporting him wishing he will keep on winning forever.

Floyd will have his first bout out of a millionaire six fight deal with Showtime.

The rise of Tyson Fury

fury2222By Dimond Dallas: Just about a little while ago heavyweight Tyson Fury was looked upon by everyone as just another ‘big guy’ from Great Britain always destined to live in the shadow of the much more fancied David Price, it was almost as if people expected them to be the Frank Bruo and Lennox Lewis of their generation respectively…  Tyson might get a few wins but will always live in the shadows of David Price… I never looked at things that way…

For starters David Price is much more older than Fury and has had much more experience as an amateur than what Fury had and still he is yet to beat anyone even reasonably good… with all his amateur experience and accomplishments he’s a guy that is pushing 30 and the only noteworthy opponent he has faced is Tony Thompson who was himself picked because he fit the ‘profile’… he was another 40 year old guy who was totally mauled by Wladimir Klitschko in their last fight, he was supposed to be the guy Price would beat to announce to the world his arrival but that story didn’t shape up the way Price’s camp would’ve liked it to have… the stray lucky punch notwithstanding this was supposed to be just another past-his-prime 40 year old for Prie to beat easily, albeit one with more name recognition at a world stage than Price’s earlier competition…

Pacquiao should fight In MGM Grand or Estadio Azteca next

pac89By Miguel Alejandro Lopez: Manny Pacquiao, the recently overthrown pound for pound king, has repeatedly indicated that he wanted to fight at the Venetian Hotel in Macau, or any other venue in Singapore for his comeback. The reason behind the decision is the taxes – Pacquiao wanted to steer clear of the taxes that the US government deducts from foreign fighters.

While fighting in Macau seems like a convenient option, it is not a very good decision when it comes to cementing a legacy and proving something in the sport. First, Macau has proven to be a good haven for boxing gambling, but it has never been established as good for pay-per-view sales.

Wladimir looking for 51st knockout against Pianeta on Saturday

WK-CAMP-4-2013-DAY-1-bw-small-border-color_MG_0618-copy(Pic by www.michaelsterlingeaton.com / KMG) By Allan Fox: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (50-3, 50 KO’s) will be looking to add his 51st knockout of his career this Saturday against one of his weaker opponents unbeaten Francesco Pianeta (28-0-1, 15 KO’s) at the SAP-Arena, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Wladimir has really taken a hammering from boxing fans for going out of his way to face the 6’5’ Pianeta instead of looking to fight someone a little better. The excuses from Wladimir that he’s unable to get guys to face him is starting to wear thin with fans because there are a lot of fighters that are more than willing to fight him. He’s got Tyson Fury practically begging him to fight him, and yet Wladimir turns around and fights the likes of Mariusz Wach and now Pianeta.

Lee Selby has the talent to make it to the top

selby45By Jamie E: British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Lee Selby (15-1, 6 KO’s) seems to have all the tools to make it all the way to the top, scratch beneath the surface though and is he really equipped to take on the world?

Lee Selby is a very accomplished fighter and has taken apart most of the opposition at domestic level with consummate ease. Although very impressive with the way he has taken care of business thus far, could it actually prove to be a hindrance?

The 26 year old featherweight from Barry South Wales has compiled a record of 14 wins from 15 having suffered a defeat in his 5th fight to Samir Mouneimne. Since then, however, he has looked very good. He is the current British and commonwealth champion at featherweight claiming the titles with an 8 round stoppage of the overwhelming favourite Stephen Smith in the champions backyard of Liverpool.

Who next for Deontay Wilder?

deontay32by Joe Walker: After Saturday’s 1st round stoppage win over Audley Harrison, Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder (28-0, 28 KO’s) now ranked 9th by WBA called out Tyson fury with a rhyme and calling him “Tyson feary.” He has since expressed his desire to fight in the UK again in the future. I hope so. He seems like a very nice person and adds something new to the heavyweight division.

The heavyweight division has been lacking characters, and Deontay adds that and so does Tyson Fury and David Haye.

Looking at it realistically, could the “Bronze Bomber” be fighting a British fighter next or in the near future? Although a fight between Fury and Wilder is one that a lot of people would like to see, in my personal opinion I can’t see it happening.
