By Scott Gilfoid: In a telling sign for what we’ll be seeing tomorrow night in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Gavin Rees (37-1-1, 18 KO’s) flat out refused to look WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21 KO’s) in the eyes when the two came together for a face off at the weigh-in.

Not only did Rees refuse to look at Broner, but he didn’t even face him in the traditional sense. Rees turned sideways, as if to escape the menacing stares from the intimidating Broner. To say that Rees looked scared was putting it mildly. He looked downright frightened to the extreme.

I didn’t see any shaking from Rees, but he looked incredibly uncomfortable when the two came close. With Rees refusing to look him in the face, Broner took the opportunity to lean forward and whisper trash talk into Rees’ ear. The only thing I could hear beyond the laughter from the crowd is Broner saying “You bum.”

Just before they came to meet for their stare down, Broner said “He [Rees] can wait because he’s going to sleep anyway.” The only thing Rees could do is look sheepish while attempting an uncomfortable smile.

One thing I noticed was the size difference between them. Broner is listed at 5’7”, as is Rees, but Broner looked to be at least two to three inches taller than Rees. That makes me wonder if Rees was without shoes or has the listing of his height been wrong all this time.

There’s no way Rees was 5’7” when the two of them were standing together unless Broner was wearing shoes and Rees in his socks. Broner looked huge compared to Rees. It was like he was a giant.

I think the fight was pretty much lost for Rees at the weigh-in. He just does not look at all confident compared to Broner.

Broner was holding a soda came while he was on the scale, and he had to be asked to put the soda down in order to be weighed.
