Robert Guerrero: Adrien Broner didn’t want no eye contact

By Dan Ambrose: WBC interim welterweight champion Robert Guerrero, with a large group of his supporters surrounds him, he confronted former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner at Friday’s Chad Dawson vs. Andre Ward weigh-in in Oakland, California. Guerrero reportedly asked Broner to fight him at 147 lbs, saying “Let’s do it at 147. Let’s do it at 147.”

Broner said “I can come down to 147. You know what it is. The same s*** we’ve been talking about. I still got my O. I still got my O. I still got my O. I still got my O. Make it happen. Send the contract and I’ll sign.”

As soon as Broner walked away, Guerrero said “We can do it at 147. We can do it at 147. Remember that, baby. He didn’t want no eye contact, baby. He didn’t want no eye contact.”

Guerrero seemed to be patting himself on the back for Broner not staring him in the eyes when he was confronting him. However, if Guerrero thinks that he’ll beat Broner just because he wasn’t making eye contact with him I think he’s sadly mistaken. Those psychological mind games don’t mean anything in the ring, and I think Guerrero will find out quickly that it takes more to beat a talented fighter like Broner than simply trying to stare him down while backed with a bunch of his supporters.

Guerrero doesn’t seem to want to meet Broner at any of catchweight. He wants Broner to move up three entire divisions in order to make the fight happen. Guerrero moved up two divisions recently to defeat Selcuk Aydin, but he looked completely awful and he would have definitely lost if he had someone like Andre Berto, Josesito Lopez or even Victor Ortiz. He just doesn’t have the power to be fighting at welterweight and he’s not going to last long at this weight once he starts facing quality opposition. I don’t consider Aydin a quality fighter.
