Garcia wants people to know that it’s Khan who is the opponent and Garcia the champion, although technically it’s now a unification bout after the World Boxing Association stripped Lamont Peterson and handed his title over to Khan rather than having him work for it.

Angel told Sky Ringside “Danny’s the champion and he’s [Khan] the opponent. The bookies are just wrong. They’re going to be mad at this. It’s going to be a fight between two lions. If he’s [Khan] a lion, it’s going to be a rumble. If not, he’s going to run. You can run but you can’t hide. He’s never fought anyone like Danny. Khan don’t really know what he’s in for.”

Angel is right about that. Khan seems cocky as if the win is in the bag. To show you how confident Khan is about this fight, he’s already talking about a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. next year, and being a pound-for-pound #1. I suppose Khan would be up their in the pound-for-pound rankings if he were to beat Mayweather, but that’s a big if. Just getting past Garcia is going to be hell for Khan, but then getting a fight against Mayweather will be another problem, especially if Khan runs and fouls like he did against Peterson.

Mayweather was completely turned off by Khan’s running and fouling in that fight, saying that Khan runs too much and that he should have been disqualified. For Khan to get a Mayweather fight, Khan not only has to beat Garcia, but he has to do it without usual shoving, pulling down on his head and putting him in headlocks. I think it’s nearly impossible for Khan to fight without using those fouls, and I doubt the referee will life a finger to keep Khan in check.
