Image: Mayweather content at not facing Pacquiao before he retiresBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) doesn’t care a fig whether he faces WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao before he retires in two or more years. Mayweather has estimated what Pacquiao is worth paying and made his offer.

Pacquiao said no, and that’s basically it. Mayweather doesn’t believe in over-paying people for their services and Pacquiao turned down a nice $40 million payday, which is a lot more money than he’ll likely ever make for one fight in the remainder of his career.

Mayweather said “If it really was all about Pacquiao then I didn’t have to fight all 42 opponents. All I had to do was come to the sport of boxing and fight one guy and then I would have gone down as the best, just one guy.”

True, very true. If it was all about Pacquiao, Mayweather could out-boxed him years ago beating him by a lopsided 12 round decision and Mayweather would have been crowned the top guy already. But it’s not all about Pacquiao.

Mayweather has beaten quality fighters for years now, and Pacquiao is just one more name. But what can Mayweather do when he’s figured out what Pacquiao is worth to him and he doesn’t accept the offer? That’s on him. You can’t expect Mayweather to give Pacquiao more than what Mayweather figures he brings to the table. Also, Mayweather makes $40 million per fight.

A fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather would generate $100 million possibly. The only way it’s worth Mayweather taking the fight is if he takes the bigger slice of the pie. If he cuts the purse down the middle, Mayweather only comes out with $50 million for beating Pacquiao. That’s a mere $10 million more than what Mayweather makes for beating up lesser names. So why take the fight if it’s not bring in significantly bigger money for Mayweather? Pacquiao asking for a 50-50 deal is what’s keeping this fight from being made, and never will be made unless Pacquiao accepts the more than fair offer made to him by Mayweather.
