Wladimir: I’m going to try hard to KO Mormeck, but I won’t guarantee it

Wladimir wants to get his 50th knockout of his career, and wants to look good in winning this fight after failing to get a stoppage win in his last bout against former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye last July. However, Wladimir doesn’t want to put a lot of pressure on himself by making a prediction about a knockout because he might not live up to his expectations.

Wladimir told the dailymail.co.uk “I will do everything in my power to knock a person out, but I won’t guarantee it. I promised a knockout against David Haye and I didn’t deliver. I’m going to do my job.”

It sounds like Wladimir is just going to go out and try and win rounds without worrying about looking to get a KO in the fight. It makes more sense for him to just focus on boxing in this fight, because Mormeck likes to move his head quite a bit with his bob and weave style of fighting, and it makes it difficult to hit him with head shots from long distance the way that Wladimir likes to fight. Mormeck is a lot more hittable on the inside where his head movement is a lot more track-able. Wladimir can’t fight very well on the inside and he likely won’t even try on Saturday night, because Mormeck is a lot more skilled in that area in comparison.

Wladimir could blind Mormeck with his power jabs because that’s one weapon that will find it’s mark no matter how much head movement that Mormeck uses. If Wladimir can throw a lot of jabs in this fight than he’s going to have a good chance of swelling up Mormeck’s face and perhaps shutting his eyes. Softening Mormeck up with jabs is Wladimir’s best way of winning this fight because he can then catch him with a big left hook or a fight hand to put Mormeck down.

Mormeck said “I had Haye on the canvas and shortly before a knockout which Klitschko could not do. What I missed out against Haye, I will do with him.”

Haye was a much different story because both fighters were at the same weight at cruiserweight, and Haye was really opening up on Mormeck and taking chances. Wladimir won’t likely let his hands go the same way that Haye did. Wladimir doesn’t like to get hit at all and won’t give Mormeck any real chances to land his shots. It’s going to be long range bombing for Wladimir with his power jab and occasionally with right hands if he feels that it’s safe. He only throws if he feels like he’s not going to get countered in return. If Mormeck is starting to use the same moves when getting hit with his jabs, Wladimir will work off that and come behind it with a left hook or a fight hand to try and hurt Mormeck. That’s the only way I can see Wladimir scoring a knockout in this fight.
