Image: Klitschko-Mormeck to be shown on EPIX todayby Jim Dower: If you’re interested in seeing the bout between IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and challenger Jean Marco Mormeck today, you can see it on EPIX.HD.com starting at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m PT. The fight will be streamed live from the Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. The fight can be seen as part of a free trail offer from EPIX. The catch is that you might need to sign up as soon as possible in order to see the fight, because if you wait until the fight is about to start you might not be able to register because it locks up sometimes.

Wladimir is a huge favorite to have his way with the 39-year-old smaller 5’11” Mormeck. THis is a hand-picked opponent for Wladmir. It makes sense only in the sense that it’s a fight that will make money because Mormeck has a huge fan base in France, and he brings a lot of money to the table compared to pretty much all of the other heavyweight contenders. That’s the likely appeal of Wladimir facing Mormeck. He brings in good money from France, if not the ability to give Wladimir any real problems.

It would have been nicer to see Mormeck face at least one top tier heavyweight before getting a fight against Wladimir, because the guys that Mormeck has fought in his last three fights at the heavyweight level has been less than dangerous. I’d like to have seen Mormeck at least get in there and see what he could do with a fringe contender like the big 6’7″ 300 pound Alexander Ustinov, one if the Klitschko’s fighters in their stable. If Mormeck could have beaten a guy like Ustinov, then I could see him getting a title shot. However, I’d favor Ustinov to beat Mormeck, so I guess it’s a good thing Mormeck didn’t fight him. But it’s disappointing to see Wladimir facing a guy that really, really struggled to beat three 2nd tier heavyweights before this fight. It stands to reason that if Mormeck can’t even beat a B level heavyweight without controversy, then how is he going to have a chance against Wladimir?
