Two judges had Froch winning five rounds against Ward: What fight were they watching?

Image: Two judges had Froch winning five rounds against Ward: What fight were they watching?By Scott Gilfoid: I’m still kind of stunned at how awful two of the judges’ scorecards were last night. How on earth could two of the judges – John Stewart and Craig Metcalfe – give Carl Froch five rounds in against Andre Ward? They scored it officially 115-113 each, while the other judge from the UK John Keane scored it 118-110.

I watched the bout twice so far and the best I could come up with is 119-109, meaning Froch won only one round. He was getting hit too cleanly by Ward’s left hooks and right hands all throughout the fight and even if you were inclined to score some rounds for Froch, you couldn’t because Ward kept hitting him so cleanly. Froch got out-landed in every round except the 9th, and I gave him that round.

That was a good round from Froch, but only because Ward took the round off. But the other rounds Ward landing more punches and hitting Froch with clean right hands and left hooks. How could you find five rounds in the entire fight to score for Froch and how could two judges both see it that way? It’s like the lottery or something. What were those judges watching? Froch was getting used and abused by Ward, and these judges saw Froch winning five rounds?

They almost had the fight a draw. Can you believe that? How in the heck is the fight we just saw almost a draw? Scary judging. It would have been a tragedy had the judges given Froch a draw. That would have made a joke out of the Super Six tournament. I wonder what they would have done then? Fight another time or just have both fighters hands raised as the Super Six champions. That would be lame. I could have sat at ringside with a blindfold on and come up with more realistic scores than that. That is a joke.
