Image: Wladimir concerned about Mormeck fightBy Dan Ambrose: IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) sees his December 10th opponent Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) as a very serious threat to his title reign and doesn’t want to mess things up by overlooking the hard hitting Frenchman in their fight at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. Wladimir has to avoid the hard shots from the shorter Mormeck in this fight, and he can’t afford to overlook this opponent. Mormeck has A level power and previously knocked David Haye down in a fight.

Wladimir has a history of being hurt by big punchers and has changed his game considerably since his last knockout defeat the hands of Lamon Brewster in 2004. Even with the change of fighting style going from being a slugger to that of a boxer, Wladimir has still been hurt by guys like Samuel Peter and marked up by Tony Thompson and David Haye.

Wladimir said to supersport.com “When Mormeck said he wanted to become the first French world heavyweight champion, I was a little worried and went quickly into the training camp.”

Wladimir also had some comments to say about former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye’s recent retirement at age 31, saying “It is actually nonsense to retire so early.”

He’s right, of course. Haye retiring just when he’s coming a popular fighter is an insane move, because he stands to make a lot more money in the coming years, especially after Wladimir and his brother WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko retire. Once they’re gone, there are few guys to stand in Haye’s way in ruling the heavyweight division other than Robert Helenius, David Price, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Those are very large heavyweights but Haye has already proven that he can beat super heavyweights in wins over Audley Harrison and Nicolay Valuev in the past.
