Audley Harrison wants Tyson Fury

By Sean McDaniel: Former 2000 Olympic super heavyweight Gold Medalist Audley Harrison (27-5, 20 KO’s) wants to take on British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (15-0, 10 KO’s) for his next fight.

Fury recently defeated Dereck Chisora last weekend by a lopsided 12 round decision to claim the British/Commonwealth straps.

The 6’9” Fury is now looking for an opponent for his next fight, and has already mentioned 40-year-old Martin Rogan as a possibility. The 39-year-old Harrison would also appear to be a good fit, as he’s about equal to Rogan in ability but a lot better known.

Fury might want to consider that fight if he wants to continue bringing big numbers in television ratings. His fight against Chisora did remarkably well in the British ratings on Channel 5.

Harrison said this on his twitter: “Just in case Fury and Mick want some of this, I need to get in shape. Better to prepared and it not come, than it come and I’m not prepared. I’m interested in the fight and you know my number. If we don’t discuss this by the end of the week, I’ll move on.”

Wow! Harrison is giving Fury a deadline. That’s hilarious. Harrison hasn’t fought since being stopped in the 3rd round last year in November in a humiliating stoppage loss to David Haye. Audley only threw one punch in the entire fight and looked terrified of getting hit by Haye.

A fight between Fury and the 6’7” Harrison would be interesting if for no other reason than the size of the two fighters involved. However, Harrison would have to fight with a lot more courage than he showed in the Haye loss and it’s difficult to see Fury willing to take the risk that this could be yet another stinker of a fight involving Harrison.

However, the bout would attract a lot more attention than if Fury decides to take on the 40-year-old Martin Rogan next. Harrison is better known than Rogan and he can punch a little when he’s motivated.
