Round 1

Marcos Maidana attacking a soft in the belly-looking Erik Morales. Landing jabs to the head and nice right hands. Morales looks timid, not doing much of anything other than trying to get out of the way of shots. Morales throws some feather-fisted shots that look way too weak to have any effect on Maidana. Maidana misses a big right hand near the end of the round but land a hard left that snaps Morales’s head back violently. This is looking like a mismatch. Maidana lands another hard hook to the head of Morales, messing up his eye.

Round 2

Morales comes out with an already badly swollen up right eye that looks like it will soon be closing. Maidana immediately attacks the soft looking Morales with jabs to the swollen eye and hard body shots. Maidana backing up Morales with power shots and making him miss his weaker, slower punches. Morales looks like he’s lost whatever hand speed he once had. Morales opens up with a left-right combo that sails through Morales’ guard and connects to the head. Maidana going caveman with huge clubbing right hands one after another. It looks like a Khan-Maidana replay of the 10th round with Morales getting worked over. Morales landing some shots but he’s just too weak and looks like he doesn’t belong at this weight. Morales getting worked over on the ropes. Morales looks like he’s already gone 12 rounds.

Round 3

Maidana looking sloppy in this round as he seems to be tiring a little from all shots he’s been throwing. Morales lands a nice combo to the body of Maidana, and backing Maidana up. Morales landing jabs to the head and fires off a 1-2. Maidana punching back but looks a little ragged in this round and seems to be taking a breather to catch his second wind.

Round 4

Morales starts off well landing a nice sweeping hook to the head of Maidana that gets his attention. Maidana fires back a hard shots but Morales catches him quickly with a counter shot to the head. Morales seems to have figured out Maidana’s style and is fighting a lot better, although he still looks terrible with his right eye problem. Maidana continues to land hard right hands in close. Maidana generating a lot of power on his shots. Morales fires back another hard right hand that catches Maidana. Maidana pressuring but missing a lot and taking big gulps of air.

Round 5

Morales fighting well in this round, backing Maidana up and landing hard shots after initially taking some big right hands from Maidana at the start of the round. Maidana doesn’t look good, looking very tired and taking a lot of shots. Morales’ form is a lot better than Maidana and just looks like a much better fighter. Maidana’s power is keeping him competitive but Morales really dominating Maidana in this round and making him look bad. Maidana missing wildly with desperate looking shots. Morales going to the body and Maidana doesn’t seem to like the body shots at all. Maidana coming apart this round.

Round 6

Maidana attacking hard at the start of the round throwing sloppy looking shots but scoring enough to give Morales problems. Morales firing back and looking really good, not like a shot fighter all. Maidana comes back with some huge right hands to win the round but Morales is still firing back with punches. Morales wasn’t as strong in this round but he’s still fighting very good. Maidana just looks primitive with his wild shots. But when he connects he’s giving Morales problems.

Maidana punching with better accuracy this round and not looking nearly as wild. However, Morales still fighting back hard landing combinations and staying right with Maidana. It’s a close round but Maidana’s power shots seem to be the telling factor. Morales very impressive. If he had more power and size, he’d be dominating.

Round 8

Maidana taking some big shots at the start of the round and looks possibly hurt. Morales pouring it on and giving Maidana problems. Seems to hurt him again late in the round. It’s a clear round for Morales.

Maidana fighting better in the 9th, landing with good power shots as Morales appears to be tired. Maidana lands some big shots at the start of the round and Morales doesn’t have an answer for them.

Round 10

Morales foiling Maidana’s attempts to land his power shots by blocking them with his forearms and gloves. Morales backs Maidana to the ropes and giving it to him with combinations and straight right hands. Morales lands well to the body. Morales really getting the better of Maidana on the inside. Maidana looks confused.

Round 11

Maidana comes out firing jabs and connects with a big crushing right hand that seems to hurt Morales. However, Maidana looks tired and can’t put together enough shots to finish off Morales. Maidana finally lands a big right hand that connects cleanly to the head of Morales. Maidana landing well and Morales looking tired.

Maidana taking the fight to a now tired Morales and working him over with shots. Morales still firing back punches but he’s now too weak to do much. Maidana dominating pretty much by default over a weakened Morales.
