Mayweather vs. Marquez = Huge Mismatch

By Chris Williams: This fight is an utter joke. I for one am not in the least bit interested in seeing this bout and watching poor Juan Manuel Marquez get slaughtered. If you people think that Marquez has a chance against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday night then I have some desert property I want to sell you. This is going to be a royal slaughter and if you want to pay to see this farce, it’s on you.
This fight should be sold out if people really cared about it, but clearly people like me are too smart to throw their money away in this circus attraction. The reason why I see this as a gross mismatch is simple. Marquez is older, smaller, slower and has much less boxing skills than Mayweather.
Marquez is 36-years-old and has been through a number of hard bouts in the past two years and taken a lot of punishment against Joel Casamayor, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Diaz. Marquez probably should have won all three of the bouts, but got ripped off in the fight against Pacquiao last year in March, losing by a 12 round split decision in a poorly scored fight.
Saturday’s fight matches two counter punchers up against each other and it will be interesting to see who does the attacking in the fight. I doubt it will be Mayweather, I can say that much. Mayweather may be the bigger fighter of the two, but he’s not into taking chances and will probably do what he always does, in other words, sit back and wait for Marquez to come to him so that he doesn’t need to be the one to take any chances.
The pay isn’t fair, because Mayweather is getting a huge $15 million dollar payday, I hear compared to a much smaller amount for Marquez. I don’t think Mayweather is worth that kind of cash, not in this fight he is. This isn’t a mega fight to me.
I consider a mega fight one where there are two evenly matched fighters, like if Mayweather were to be fighting Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito or Paul Williams. I consider those mega fights because I consider them as fighters that could fight Mayweather on even terms pretty much and wouldn’t be a t huge weight size, and skill disadvantage like Marquez will be against Mayweather.
William may be a light middleweight right now, but he only moved up in weight because all the other welterweights were afraid to fight him. Williams could move back down at a moments notice if Mayweather would show interest in fighting him.
Are you kidding? Mayweather won’t fight Williams. Mayweather will never fight Williams, at least not in this lifetime, even though Williams has fought most of his career up until recently at welterweight. Mayweather fans love to say that it wouldn’t be fair because Williams is much taller than Mayweather.
If that’s the case, then why is Mayweather fighting Marquez? Answer me that? Mayweather has freakishly much longer arms than Marquez, almost six inches longer. If Mayweather fought Williams, then Mayweather would be the one at the huge disadvantage. If it’s fair for a fight for Marquez, then it should be the same for a fight with Williams.
Of course Mayweather won’t fight Williams, nor will he fight Joshua Clottey, Cotto, Margarito or Mosley. This is called cherry picking. And the worst part is that boxing fans still have to pay the same kind of big money that they would be paying if Mayweather to fight someone his own size and ability.
That is such a joke. It’s like having a grand chess champion go to elementary school to beat up on some poor 6th grader in chess.
Mayweather has everything going for him in this fight with Marquez – speed, age, weight, boxing skills, taller, longer reach, power, accuracy, experience against top level opposition and home crowd. Need I say more?

This time you really f*** up with this article Chris, you mention that is not a fair fight but you also say that it would be a good one against pacman, do you even read what you writte? Do I have to tell you how Pacman was beat by Marquez twice? it will be a great fight to watch and you will be missing it for your poor sense of knowlage of boxing.

I agree that Mayweather has nothing to prove, he is a good boxer and loves the sport; but if anyone is going to repeatedly say that he is the BEST, the KING, the #1 POUND for POUND he should prove it by fighting the best out there, something he has failed to do time and time again. If he fights to put money in his pocket then he should go around saying that he is the SMARTEST boxer for picking fights he can win, having a spotless record, and becoming rich at the same time. In that sense he is good but really he isn’t the best boxer out there, if he was he would prove it.
like Mayweather said, he doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. He takes on the fights to put money in his own pocket. but he is still undefeated and not yet been knocked down. True he could take the fight with Williams, Pac or even Shane but as soon as he wins another hater will be right there screaming you haven’t beaten so and so..
I have called several businesses in Johnson City TN, to be specific two pubs and five restaurants, only one pub will be showing the fight but with no sound due to UFC. The problem here is that Mayweather is hurting boxing by NOT fighting the bouts he should be. I am not interested in watching Floyd run around the ring, throw a couple combo’s, irritate the opponent and win on a decision. Floyd took this fight because he was sure to win it, sometimes things don’t go as planned. If I was Marquez, I would stand in the middle of the ring each time Floyd ran and make him fight. If Ali and Leonard said to me that they are the best of all time, I wouldn’t have a problem with it at all, they did fight the best of their time and came out on top in their prime, but for Floyd can’t say that, he should take up jogging or if he want to compete maybe track and field- since he runs so much both in the ring and from the competition.

I disagree that this is a mismatch, but I definitely agree that if Mayweather were really interested in pushing his limits and proving to the world that he is the best, he would be targeting the people mentioned in the article. Hey Floyd, pick on someone your own size!
Mayweather Jnr v Mosley that’s the fight I want to see, and my money would be on Shane. I like Marquez, and yes I agree he was robbed against Pac especially the last fight, but I just don’t think he’ll beat Floyd, but you never know and so I’ll be watching….in hope.
$15 million is not guaranteed. Depending on how many people will buy into this thing.

I think this fight goes the distance and floy wins. Unless marquez cuts him or hurts him really bad, then he might get the decision. However I do not see marquez knocking mayweather out. It would be good to see marques hurt him though or win the early rounds, because I am curious to see how floyd will react in the late rounds if he knows he is behind. Should be a good fight.

Mayweather is about to be beaten. Del la Hoya went 12 rounds with him quite recently, when not in his prime. Marquez is in his prime and better than Del la Hoya, and… a great counter puncher as well
Blah, blah ,blah…Both fighters agreed to fight each other..both fighters know there advantige’s and disadvantiges and they both want to win. It will be a mistake-free match, i see it going all 12 rounds…marquez wins the bout…next on the list would be pacquiao…can’t wait for that!!! Viva Mexico!!!

I still want Marquez to win this. I’m a manny pacquiao fan and I know that pacquiao will beat any of this 2 crybabies. But, pacquiao mayweather means more millions to mayweather. The Mayweathers going to verbally abuse pacquiao and Jr. will pay dearly for it inside the ring. At the end of the day, more money for Jr. He’ll go to retirement singing a happy tune. But if there is no fight between manny and mayweather, mayweather will go bankrupt in 2 years.

I agree mayweather wouldn’t take the the fight if he in his mind wasn’t 100per cent sure of wining and lets get it clear mayweather will never fight mosley not for all the tea in china mosley is a bigger stronger version of mayweather who is game loves a tear up mosley can box as good as mayweather his hand speed is near on the same and his punch is much bigger plus he has a solid chin and a fighters heart Shane would walk down Floyd letting his little shots bounce of him before landing his own and stopping Floyd round about the 9th and that is why you will never see Floyd in the same building as Shane let alone the same ring

It bothers me when people talk about mismatches in boxing. Both fighters agreed to fight one another, therefore, each figher feels as though they can win and that the fight is fair. Each fighter knows the height, weight, reach, etc of the other fighter before they sign the contract. Does Marquez think its a mismatch? Probably not, he did sign the contract. Does Mayweather? Probably not, he to signed the contract.
If a fighter feels that the fight isnt fair (or a mismatch), then why sign a contract? Why bother training?
Marquez is the same size a manny pacquiao, has the same kind of achievments and is going up in weight just like manny did. Oh, not to forget FLOYD HIMSELF went up 5 weights. So using your logic no doubt a mayweather – pacquiao fight would also be a mismatch, right?
