Image: Brook destroys Saldivia; Anderson stops ReidBy William Mackay: Kenny Anderson (18-1, 13 KO’s) defeated former WBC super middleweight champion Robin Reid (42-8-1, 29 KO’s) by a 5th round TKO to capture the vacant BBBofC British super middleweight title on the undercard of the Kell Brook vs. Hector Saldivia fight on Saturday night at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

The heavy handed Anderson didn’t look all that great until knocking Reid down with a nice uppercut and then blasting him out with a flurry of shots to get the win.

Reid looked stiff, and slightly robotic through most of the fight. However, his jab worked well and he found the slow-footed Anderson easy to hit and easy to tie up with clinches. Anderson looked like he was on his way to losing the fight when his power bailed him out.

Anderson was hoping to get a fight with George Groves but the fight was cancelled, leaving Anderson have to fight Reid instead.

Other results:

Jamie McDonnell (20-2-1, 9 KOs) wore down and stopped replacement opponent Darwin Zamora (21-7-1, 18 KO’s) in the 9th round when Zamora couldn’t come out at the start of the round in this IBF bantamweight eliminator. Zamora was cut up and badly punished in this one-sided fight.

McDonnell is now the mandatory challenger for IBF bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz. Beating Zamora is one thing, but McDonnell will be out of his class against the likes of Santa Cruz.

In main event, unbeaten Kell Brook (29-0, 19 KO’s) defeated Hector Saldivia (41-3, 32 KO’s) in the 3rd round, stopping him with a mere jab in the 3rd round to get the win in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout. Brook knocked Saldivia down in the 1st round with a right uppercut to the head. Saldivia was lucky to survive the remainder of the round, because Brook likely could have taken him out then and there if he had pushed hard for the KO. Instead, Brook took his time and slowly wore Saldivia down until halting him in the 3rd.
