Roach: Pacquiao broke Viktor Postol’s nose

roach564By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach says that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 28 KOs) broke sparring partner Viktor Postol’s nose during a sparring session several days ago.

Postol, an unbeaten light welterweight, is helping Pacquiao get prepared for his November 22nd fight against undefeated Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) for their fight at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macau, in Macau S.A.R., China.

Postol agrees to step aside for Danny Garcia

garcia565By Dan Ambrose: #1 WBC Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KOs) has reportedly received a bonus to step aside so that WBC/WBA light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) can fight another opponent within the next 4 months. Postol can fight whoever he wishes during that time, but after that Garcia has within 90 days to fight Postol, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

If Garcia doesn’t face Postol within that 90 days then presumably he’ll be stripped by the World Boxing Council if Garcia doesn’t vacate his WBC title first, which is highly likely. It’s unknown how much money Postol received in order to step aside but it’s likely a significant amount of money.

WBC extends Danny Garcia vs. Viktor Postol negotiations 10 days until purse bid on October 10th

garcia68By Dan Ambrose: The World Boxing Council has extended negotiations between WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and his #1 WBC mandatory challenger Viktor Postol (29-0, 17 KOs) until October 10th. If an agreement isn’t reached by that time a purse bid will take place on October 10th.

Postol could potentially be the most formidable opponent that Garcia has faced during his career due to his 5’11” height, long reach, excellent chin and high work rate. Garcia was very lucky to win a controversial decision over Mauricio Herrera last March in Puerto Rico, but he’ll have to find another way to beat Postol because this fight.

Viktor Postol would give Danny Garcia a lot of problems

postol6By Dan Ambrose: It looks like WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16 KO’s) is moving up in weight just in time because if he were to keep his WBC title, he’d be soon forced to defend his title against #1 WBC Viktor Postol (26-0, 11 KO’s). After how easily the 5’11” Postol handled #2 WBC Selcuk Aydin (26-3, 19 KO’s) last night in stopping him in the 11th round in a one-sided fashion, Garcia would have a lot of problems with Postol and it’s quite likely he would lose to him if that fight were to be made.

Garcia has talked about vacating his 140 lb. titles but he still hasn’t officially done it. Some boxing fans think he may be a little torn about whether he should take the plunge and move up to 147, because at that weight he wouldn’t have a size advantage over his opponents like he’s had at 140.

Aydin vs. Postol on 5/17; winner becomes Danny Garcia’s WBC mandatory challenger

aydin12By Dan Ambrose: #1 WBC Viktor Postol (25-0, 10 KO’s) and #2 WBC Selcuk Aydin (26-2, 19 KO’s) will be facing each other in a WBC 140lb eliminator bout on May 17th on the undercard of the HBO televised fight card between Mike Alvarado and Juan Manuel Marquez at the Forum in Inglewood, California. While casual boxing fans in the U.S may not be familiar with Postol, they familiar with Aydin, as his defeats to Jesus Soto Karass and Robert Guerrero have been televised.

Aydin looked incredibly poor in both fights, and it’s strange that the World Boxing Council would still have Aydin so highly ranked after how badly he was beaten in both of those fights.
