Oleksandr Gvozdyk vs. Tommy Karpency on July 23

gvozdyk

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten 2012 Olympic Ukrainian light heavyweight bronze medalist Oleksandr Gvozdyk (10-0, 8 KOs) will be facing two-time former world title challenger Tommy Karpency (26-5-1, 15 KOs) on July 23 on the undercard of the Terence Crawford vs. Viktor Postol card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 29-year-old Gvozdyk’s fight against Karpency will be televised as part of the HBO pay-per-view card. This was made possible with the injury WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez suffered last week that required him to pull out of card. Ramirez was supposed to have been defending his WBO 168lb title against #10 WBO Dominik Britisch.

Gvozdyk vs. Karpency will be the first fight on the HBO PPV card on July 23.

Stevenson-Karpency averaged 581K viewers on Spike

YouTube video

By Tim Fletcher: Last Friday’s fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) and challenger Tommy Karpency (25-5-1, 14 KOs) brought in disappointing ratings on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The fight brought in an average of 581,000 viewers on Spike with a peak of 784,000. Those numbers likely reflect the poor match-up that the fight was. Stevenson’s adviser Al Haymon should have known from the moment the contract was signed that there would be little fan interest in this mismatch.

Kovalev: I’m ready to kick Adonis Stevenson’s a–!

YouTube video

By Dan Ambrose: Last night, WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs) trounced #9 WBC Tommy Karpency (25-5-1, 14 KOs) by a 3rd round knockout in a mismatch at the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was a fight that probably should have been never made, but unfortunately the match-making for Stevenson has not been all that great since he won the WBC title in 2013 after beating Chad Dawson.

Stevenson vs. Karpency & Spence vs. Van Heerden tonight on Spike

spence53By Dan Ambrose: WBC 175lb champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) will be inside the ring tonight to defend his WBC title against American southpaw Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Stevenson-Karpency card will start at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. It’s on free television for Americans, so it’s a really good deal.

Karpency is going to need a knockout to get a victory tonight because he does not have the talent to match-up with Stevenson in a head to head battle. If Karpency is smart, he’ll be swinging for the fences from the first minute of the first round.

Adonis Stevenson: I want to win by knockout because knockouts sell!

stevenson5By Tim Fletcher: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) doesn’t plan on taking it easy on the over-matched #9 WBC challenger Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) this Friday night in their fight on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike from the Ricoh Coliseum, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Stevenson, 37, says he wants to score a knockout over the 29-year-old Karpency because that’s what the boxing fans want to see. Stevenson probably won’t have too many problems accomplishing that goal because Karpency is really out of his class in this fight, and it’s going to be tough for him to last long given the huge power advantage Stevenson has.

Adonis Stevenson says Pascal must work his way to a title shot

Image: Adonis Stevenson says Pascal must work his way to a title shotBy Jim Dower: If Canadian #5 WBC Jean Pascal wants a world title shot against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) then he’s going to have to work his way to the No.1 mandatory spot, because the soon to be 38-year-old Stevenson says he’s not going to give the 32-year-old Pascal a title shot with one of his voluntary defenses.

Stevenson says that Pascal gave up his No.1 spot recently when he chose to fight IBF/WBA/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, and he’s not going to let Pascal get a title shot after he threw away his chance. Further, Stevenson says that he wasn’t given a title shot by one of the champions in a voluntary defense. He had to work his way to the No.1 spot before he was given a title shot.

Adonis Stevenson vs. Tommy Karpency match set for September 11th

1-weigh in-0013 - StevensonBy Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) will be taking it easy for his next fight on September 11th by taking on #9 WBC Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) in what should be a very easy fight for the 38-year-old Stevenson on Premier Boxing Champions on Spike TV from the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

I believe this is Stevenson’s third consecutive voluntary defense. He recently defeated Sakio Bika and Dmitry Sukhotsky, and neither of those fighters was ranked No.1 by the WBC. Karpency is a clear step down from the likes of Bika and Sukhotsky, and those two fighters were seen as poor opponents as well. It kind of gives you an indication of how Stevenson is being matched for his title defenses.

Adonis Stevenson: I’m fighting Tommy Karpency on September 11th in Toronto

1-press-conference-0013-Adonis-Stevenson-CBSBy Dan Ambrose: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (26-1, 21 KOs) says he’ll be fighting #9 WBC contender Tommy Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KOs) on September 11th in Toronto. This will be a voluntary defense for the 38-year-old Stevenson, who recently defeated former WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika by a 12 round unanimous decision in his last fight in April.

If this fight does actually take place, Stevenson is going to take a lot of heat from boxing fans because they want to see him start facing quality opposition. From outward appearances, it just looks like Stevenson has been milking his WBC 175lb title for the past two years since capturing the belt with a 1st round knockout win over Chad Dawson in 2013.
