By Dan Ambrose: In the past former WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz and Brandon Rios have had words with one another, and there appears to be general dislike between them. Andre Ward shocked by Rios – Abril decision
By Scott Gilfoid: WBA/WBC super middleweight talent Andre Ward was completely shocked and disappointed in the HORRIBLE decision rendered last night in the Richard Abril – Brandon Rios fight in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rios won the fight, but fought well enough to two or three rounds at best on many of the boxing fans’ scorecards. I personally gave Rios a couple of mercy rounds because I felt sorry for the guy, but in truth, I thought he deserved none.
Rios blaming his poor performance because of weight issues
By Dan Ambrose: You knew the excuses from Brandon Rios would be coming sooner or later and sure enough, Rios is blaming his poor performance last night against Richard Abril due to his struggles to make 135. Does it sound plausible? Maybe. It depends on how good Rios looks in his next fight at 140 in the new three to four months.
Brandon Rios will struggle against Maidana, Matthysse and Alvarado at 140
By Dan Ambrose: Bob Arum of Top Rank might want to put his fighter former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (30-0-1, 22 KO’s) in a cash out fight as soon as possible so he can cut his losses before Rios goes belly up on him at 140lbs. We just saw Rios completely exposed by Richard Abril last Saturday night, and Abril is nothing compared to the kinds of quality fighters that Rios will be forced to fight if he’s going to be competing in the 140 pound light welterweight division.

Rios decisions Abril; Gesta stops Cuero; Alvarado defeats Herrera
By Jim Dower: Former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (30-0-1, 22 KO’s) failed to impress in winning a 12 round split decision on Saturday night at a fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rios loses out for chance at $50,000 bonus money and WBA interim title; now has to hope he get the win over Abril
By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) failed at making weight for his lightweight fight against Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) that takes place tonight with the WBA lightweight interim title on the line for Abril only, as well as $50,000 in bonus money. Rios can’t win the bonus cash even if he beats Abril nor can he win the WBA interim strap because Rios came in over the limit in two tries during Friday’s weigh-in.
