By Dan Ambrose: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is really looking forward to a possible fight between one of his up and coming stars Brandon Rios and 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez on July 14th. This is the fight that Arum wants to put together at the Cowboys Stadium in the summer if both Marquez and Rios win their perspective fights on Saturday night.
Rios-Abril
Rios weighs 137, two pounds over limit; Abril 135
By Jim Dower: Brandon Rios once again failed to make weight for a fight, as he came in at two pounds over the limit at 137lbs during Friday’s weigh-in for his fight against Richard Abril on Saturday night. What this means is Rios can’t win the $50,000 bonus cash that his promoter Top Rank is putting on the line to go the winner. Rios also can’t win the WBA interim lightweight title that’s also up for grabs. It’s safe to say that the $50,000 will go unclaimed on Saturday because Abril won’t be winning.
Prediction: Marquez stops Fedchenko; Rios destroys Abril
By Chris Williams: I still not too happy about having to shell out $44.95 to watch this Saturday’s mismatches between Juan Manuel Marquez against Sergiy Fedchenko, and Brandon Rios vs. Richard Abril in HBO’s pay-per-view split site telecast. It doesn’t see right to have to pay nearly $50 to see two fights that are pretty much little more than mismatches between mostly non-PPV caliber fighters.
Rios: Abril is going to run from me
(Photo: Chris Farina – Top Rank) By Jason Kim: Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) already has a pretty good idea how Cuban Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) will be trying to fight him on Saturday night and that’s by running from him all night rather than trying to mix it up. It’s hard to argue with Rios because if you look at many of Abril’s fights against tough opposition, Abril has looked like a runner trying not to get hit.
Rios: Juan Manuel Marquez and I have a lot of options for 2012
(Photo: Chris Farina – Top Rank) By Jason Kim: Former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) is hoping his promoter Bob Arum can line him up with a fight against former three division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez later on this year in the summer if Rios beats his opponent Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) and Marquez defeats Sergiy Fedchenko on Saturday night. Both fights will be televised on HBO pay-per-view in a $44.95 split site card.
Brandon Rios: Abril is going to go down real hard
(Photo: Chris Farina – Top Rank) By Allan Fox: Undefeated former WBA World lightweight champion Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) is predicting a knockout victory over his Cuban challenger Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Rios and Abril have had a lot of angry words between them, and for Rios, this is personal. He wants to KO Abril to prove a point that he’s not in his league.
Rios vs. Abril for interim WBA lightweight title on Saturday
By Jason Kim: Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) will be looking to get closer to grabbing back his lost WBA lightweight title in his fight next Saturday on April 14th against #1 WBA Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) on HBO PPV. This is a good fight for Rios, because he’s got a fighter in Abril that will show him a completely different look from any of his past opponents.
Rios-Abril and Marquez-Fedchenko: Is this card worth $44.95 on PPV?
By Chris Williams: I’m still trying to figure out why Bob Arum made the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Sergiy Fedchenko and Brandon Rios vs. Richard Abril split site card a pay-per-view card that will be going for $44.95 on April 14th on HBO. I love boxing but I don’t like paying that kind of money to see a couple of mismatches.
Rios vs. Abril on HBO PPV on April 14th
By Chris Williams: Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KO’s) and Richard Abril (17-2-1, 8 KO’s) will be televised on HBO on April 14th in a pay per view fight along with Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Serhiy Fedchenko in a split site card. The Rios-Abril fight will take place at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. I’m still recovering from the shock of seeing that this card will be PPV, because I don’t see anything that that’s worth paying for.
