Weights: Burns 134.3, Beltran 134.8

beltran223By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns 36-2, 11 KO’s) and challenger Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) weighed in today for their fight on Saturday night at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Both guys pretty much weighed nearly the same amount with Burns coming in at 134.3 lbs. compared to Beltran’s 134.8 lbs. Beltran looked more solid at the weight, and my guess he’ll bulk up a little more after he rehydrates.

Burns looks like a welterweight after he rehydrates, but I’m not sure that’s going to help him in this fight because Beltran will likely be a little heavier. This isn’t going to be one of Burns’ fights where he has a big size advantage over his hapless opponent.

Pacquiao picks Beltran to beat Ricky Burns

beltran1By Scott Gilfoid: Manny Pacquiao is picking Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) to beat WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) in their fight next month on September 7th at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Pacquiao knows how talented the 32-year-old Beltran is because he’s been his sparring partner, and the two have battled it more numerous times with Beltran giving as good as he gets.

Pacquiao told WealthTV “I believe Beltran will make [take] it. He is a nice guy, a good boxer and good luck to him. Hopefully he can make it.”

Forget the nice guy stuff; Beltran is like a relentless lion in the ring. He doesn’t stop coming forward even for an instant, and no matter how good your boxing skills are, he’s going to force you into a war.

Hearn wants Ricky Burns to fight a unification bout after Beltran

burns433By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s), says he wants to put the 30-year-old Burns in a unification bout after he takes care of his scheduled September 7th title defense against #6 WBO Raymundo Belt (28-6, 17 KO’s) at the Scottish exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland.

Hearn had been talking about matching Burns against his #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford in a fight that he wants to take place in Glasgow. However, it looks like Hearn has either seen Crawford and realized that it’s no-win situation for Burns, or he might have just been name dropping to get some of the attention from American boxing fans for Burns.

Ricky Burns plans on boxing Beltran

burns433By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) survived a scare last May in stopping the taller, faster, stronger and more athletic Jose Gonzalez in the 9th round after the Puerto Rican ran out of gas and suffered a hand injury. Burns now plans on focusing more on his boxing skills for his next title defense against Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) on September 7th at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Burns said to Sky Sports “I’ll get involved in a brawl in this fight if and when I need to but I’m going to rely on my boxing a bit more. Preparation has been going great and I can’t wait to get in there. We’re expecting a tough fight…I’m first to say I wasn’t myself that night [against Jose Gonzalez] and I’ll show what I’m capable in my next fight.”

Ricky Burns vows not to make mistakes against Beltran like he did against Jose Gonzalez

burns433By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) says he’s going to fix the mistakes he made in his last fight against Jose Gonzalez and fight at a higher level for his next title defense against Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) in their fight on September 7th at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom.

Burns was taking a beating and getting royally schooled by Gonzalez until the Puerto Rican fighter injured his wrist in the 8th round after having staggered Burns. The fight was halted after the 9th round due to Gonzales’ wrist causing him too many problems to continue fighting.

Burns-Beltran on September 7th; Terrence Crawford possible opponent for Burns next year

crawford4543By Scott Gilfoid: WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns’ September 7th fight with #8 WBO, Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) is now official and will be taking place at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. This is supposed to be very winnable fight for Burns, but after seeing him struggle to beat Jose Gonzalez last May, I’m not so certain.

If Burns does win, there’s a possibility that he could face unbeaten American talent Terrence Crawford (21-0, 16 KO’s) next year in a fight that would be televised on HBO. Burns’ promoter Eddie Hearn is having discussions about a Burns-Crawford fight next year, and it obviously would be a nice money fight for both guys.

Burns v Beltran on September 7th

burns433By Stevie Ocallaghan: According to Scottish Television (STV) WBO Lightweight champ Ricky Burns is to defend his belt against Mexican Raymundo Beltran on September 7th at the SECC in Glasgow.

Beltran 28-6 with 17 KOs has been fighting at a decent level having lost a tight decision against the tough Ugandan Sharif Bogere, then winning a close matchup against Hank Lundy.

Beltran also out pointed the tough Ji-Hoon Kim who himself fought against Miguel Vasquez for the vacant IBF belt back in 2010. Beltran is the long term sparring partner of Manny Paquiao at Freddie Roach’s gym.

Ricky Burns vs. Raymundo Beltran on September 7th

burns43333By Scott Gilfoid: After a close call against Jose Gonzalez last May in a fight that he would have lost had Gonzalez not suffered an injury and gassed out, WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) will be taking things back into the safe mode with a fight against #8 Raymundo Beltran (28-6, 17 KO’s) on September 7th in Glasgow, Scotland, according to STV.

There were much better options than the 31-year-old Beltran to fight, such as #1 WBO Sergio Thompson, #2 Omar Figueroa or #5 Terrence Crawford, but those guys would have an excellent chance of beating Burns, so I’m kind of not surprised that he’s being matched up against Beltran.

Beltran defeats Kim; Magdaleno decisions Arrellano

Image: Beltran defeats Kim; Magdaleno decisions ArrellanoBy Jim Dower: Earlier tonight on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, NABF lightweight champion Raymundo Beltran (27-6, 17 KO’s) successfully defended his title in beating Ji-Hoon Kim (24-8, 18 KO’s) by a 10 round unanimous decision at the Mirage Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The final judges’ scores were 98-92, 98-92 and 97-94, all for the 31-year-old Beltran.

It wasn’t an easy win for Beltran, however, as Kim really took the fight to him and was able to score some big shots in almost every round. Kim knocked Beltran down hard in the 1st round with a nice left hand. However, Kim got a little ahead of himself while trying to finish Beltran off and ran into a hard left hand that stunned him.
