By Juan dela Cruz: On their last two outings, Juan Manual Marquez believed that he won both fights despite kissing the canvass several times and robbing Pacquiao of a majority decision because of erroneous judging of one the judges. Those were really good fights that made the fans on the edge of their seats, but it was clear to boxing experts that Pacquiao defeated Marquez two times. But if Marquez and his handful of fans believed that he won those fights, then why does he need to fight Pacman again for the third time?
Pacquiao vs. Marquez
What if Pacquiao and Marquez fight for the vacant IBO Light welterweight title?
By Gerardo Granados: Congressman Pacquiao is the current WBC light middleweight champion and Dinamita Marquez is the current WBO – WBA Super World lightweight champion; how hard could it be for Golden Boy Promotions or for Top Rank to arrange things with the IBO ranking committee to rank both for the vacant light welterweight title?
Roach wants Pacquiao-Marquez III at 147, without a catch weight
By Dan Ambrose: In the latest boxing news, trainer Freddie Roach likes the idea of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time, albeit at the full 147 pounds of the welterweight division without a catch weight to help Marquez bridge the gap.
Why are Pacquiao’s fans against him fighting Marquez below 147?
By Chris Williams: Any time the subject of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez below 147 pounds come up, you’ll notice that Pacquiao’s adoring fans start to complain like mad against Pacquiao doing that. Almost to the last man/woman, they seem to be against Pacquiao giving Marquez any kind of weight allowance by coming in a lesser weight than 147. In other words, Marquez shouldn’t get a smaller catch weight if he wants to fight Pacquiao. With them, it’s 147 or forget it. What I don’t understand why they’re so against Marquez getting even a small weight allowance for a third fight with Pacquiao.
Roach thinks Marquez is a more profitable opponent for Pacquiao than Mosley
By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach likes the idea of Manny Pacquiao fighting Juan Manuel Marquez next, and thinks a fight between them would be more profitable than a fight against 39-year-old Shane Mosley. Speaking with Philboxing.com, Roach said “Manny and Marquez have a history between them. You know, they’ve fought twice, and they were close fights. Marquez knows Manny and knows what gives Manny trouble. Marquez has proven that in two fights. both fights went the distance. Marquez has been down four times in two fights, but he’s gotten up and made the fight. Marquez is a very durable guy and he’s got an audience and a fan base behind him. So he’s marketable.”
Pacquiao hasn’t fought a prime tough fast counter-puncher Since Márquez
By Tom Graves: I rate Manny Pacquiao highly, so highly I consider him as one of the best pound for pound ever. ‘The Pacman’ has some truly great victories over top names, but recently I realized since his rematch with Juan Manuel Márquez in 2008, Pacquiao has indeed faced bigger opposition but those opponents have been slower punchers and boxers past their primes.
Pacquiao willing to fight Marquez for a guaranteed purse – but worried the fight will lose money
By Dan Ambrose: Manny Pacquiao has no problems with facing WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez as long as Pacquiao gets a guaranteed purse. Pacquiao is convinced the fight won’t sell for some reason and is worried that it will actually lose money instead of making it. Why Pacquiao thinks this is unclear, because he’s faced two less than popular Top Rank fighters Joshua Clottey and Antonio Margarito, and both of those fights have made a lot of money. It’s hard to see Clottey or Margarito as having larger fan bases than Marquez.
Roach wants Pacquiao to face Marquez but at 147
By Chris Williams: Trainer Freddie Roach wants Manny Pacquiao to finally give Juan Manuel Marquez a rematch, but instead of the fight taking place at 135 to 140, which would make it a winnable fight for Marquez, Roach wants the fight to take place at 147. In other words, he wants Pacquiao to have a huge advantage over Marquez. Roach no doubt saw how badly Marquez performed when he bulked up to 143 last year in his catch-weight fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., and likes Pacquiao’s chances at fighting Marquez at an even higher weight of 147 pounds. Marquez will likely still take the fight, but it’s hardly fair. Roach must feel that Pacquiao needs the weight advantage for him to win. Why else would Roach have Pacquiao fight at the full 147 instead of using one of his handicaps?
Roach likes the idea of Pacquiao fighting Marquez
By Dan Ambrose: Freddie Roach would like to see Manny Pacquiao fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a third time, according to an interview by Michael Wood at thesweetscience.com. Roach likes the idea, but apparently Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has other ideas for Pacquiao starting with a fight against Antonio Margarito on November 13th.
Pacquiao-Marquez 3? The Fights That Were & The Fight That Will Be
By Steve Lewis: Renewed talks about Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather have surfaced again in light of Don King’s recent involvement with Team Mayweather. Top Rank boss Bob Arum and Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach have both expressed that Don King might just be the man to get Mayweather to sign on the dotted line.
But barring any changes of heart on Mayweather’s part, the fight tentatively penciled in for Pacquiao is the one against former welterweight titlist, Antonio Margarito, targeted for Nov. 13, 2010, site to be determined. Though that deal is not yet set in stone, there have been some grumblings about potentially rewarding a caught cheater with a mega-fight with Mega Manny.
