Why Marquez is hell bent on another fight with Manny Pacquiao

By Juan dela Cruz: On their last two outings, Juan Manual Marquez believed that he won both fights despite kissing the canvass several times and robbing Pacquiao of a majority decision because of erroneous judging of one the judges. Those were really good fights that made the fans on the edge of their seats, but it was clear to boxing experts that Pacquiao defeated Marquez two times. But if Marquez and his handful of fans believed that he won those fights, then why does he need to fight Pacman again for the third time?

There are some reasons why Marquez is hell bent on another fight with Pacman. First is the huge paycheck that he can never receive with fighters other than Manny, and its understandable to all of us because we all know, boxing is a business. Marquez needs big payday before he retires and the only way is through risking his life facing Manny Pacquiao.

Another reason is, as we all don’t understand, is Marquez’ insistence that he won both fights and that he got Manny’s number so there must be another fight. If you won both fights against the same opponent, why is there a need for a third fight? The real reason for this is that Marquez knew very well that he was defeated on both fights although, as what he believed, he almost had both. He still have in his mind how he gave problems to Pacquiao when they met and he still believe that he can do it and finally beat Pacman convincingly in the third fight. At the back of his mind, he knew Manny dealt with him those two losses that’s why he wants another fight. The problem with JMM is, he seems unaware of where Pacman is right now. He thought that the Pacman he will be facing, if and when they fight, is the same Manny Pacquiao he met before. Little did he know that Pac is already a complete fighting machine and as experts sees it, JMM is no match against Pac at this point in time.

Marquez has a big heart and a fighting spirit. He has talents and skills which made him one of the most exciting fighters in the world. But that was in the lighter weight because when he tried to go higher, in pursuit of his dream of facing Manny again, JMM looked terrible and a C- fighter. He can’t move an inch when he fought Mayweather at 144 and he lost his power. At welterweight, even soft punching Malinaggi can defeat him. What more if he will be facing Manny at this weight? He could suffer worse than what Dela Hoya, Hatton, Cotto and Margarito had in the hands, or I say in the fists, of Manny Pacquiao. What will he be doing with his huge paycheck if he will be paralyzed after his fight with Manny? I can’t imagine how he will look like after the fight. Busted lips? Crack orbital bone? Rearrange face? Bloody mess? These are possibilities with 100% probability it might happen to him because it had already happened to others, much bigger and stronger than JMM.

His pee-drinking ritual seems to have gotten into his head and that his pee might have done some damage to his brain. He’s asking for a 50-50 purse split where in fact, he can’t even sell a ticket in his fight. He always wanted to fight Manny again and yet, he refused to prove his worth by fighting any of those that Pac defeated, Hatton, Margarito, Clottey, and Cotto. I just don’t know how he can get past with anyone of these fighters. Compared to these boxers, JMM is only a chicken feed. His way of getting the attention of Pacman by wearing t-shirt with markings that he defeated Manny is a cheap act to solicit sympathy, and worse, many people, specially Bob Arum and Manny got turned off with this.

Manny is already in the welterweight, he is the pound for pound king and anyone who wishes to fight him should submit their resuḿe with good accomplishments in the weight where Manny fights. Juan Manuel Marquez doesn’t belong here. It is not his world, it is not his place in boxing. He needs to stay at lightweight and fight all good boxers in that weight. In that way, he can have a graceful exit in boxing, way better than kissing the canvass, gasping for air with a bloody face in his last fight.
