Pacquiao will lose big money by fighting only once in 2013

marquez124By Chris Williams: You can say Juan Manuel Marquez’s KO of Manny Pacquiao may end up costing the Filipino star huge money by keeping him out of the ring until September. Normally Pacquiao fights twice a year, but his promoter Bob Arum couldn’t find a venue for the April fight that Pacquiao wanted in order to fight.

The official reason for Pacquiao not fighting in April isn’t due to him having been knocked out. The reason is Arum couldn’t find a venue and an opponent that would bring him the kind of money that he’s used to getting in his fights.

Roach to watch Pacquiao closely in training camp for signs of deterioration

pac004By Chris Williams: Freddie Roach, the trainer for the recently KO’d Manny Pacquiao, says he’s going to be monitoring the Filipino closely in his next training camp to see if he’s suffering the after effects from his 6th round knockout at the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

Pacquiao was knocked completely out by a right hand from Marquez in the 6th, and the shot sent Pacquiao down face first.

Roach said to the latimes.com “he [Pacquiao] says he’s fine and I believe him. There are things I will be looking for in our next training camp. First, it is the footwork. I will be able to tell if he starts feeling for the canvas…I’ll look for any slight tremors.”

Arum meeting Marquez tomorrow night for dinner to discuss Pacquiao rematch

marquez23By Chris Williams: Bob Arum is meeting Juan Manuel Marquez for dinner tomorrow night to try and talk the Mexican warrior into taking a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao in September. Arum envisions the fight bringing in huge pay-per-view and gate sales, and he’s anxious to get the 39-year-old Marquez to agree to the fight as quickly as he can.

Arum is fighting an uphill battle because Marquez has made it perfectly clear that he’s done with fighting the Filipino fighter and after knocking him cold last December in their fourth fight.

Marquez maintains that he’s beaten Pacquiao all four times, so it’s not necessary to keep fighting him over and over again. Marquez wants to move on and face Brandon Rios or someone else not named Pacquiao next.

Sulaiman: Marquez should retire from boxing rather than face Pacquiao again

marquez90By Manuel Perez: WBC president Jose Sulaiman is advising that the 39-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) should be tempted by an offer for fifth fight against the younger 34-year-old Manny Pacquiao, and instead should choose to retire.

Speaking with centraldeportiva.com, Sulaiman said “For me, he [Marquez] should hang up his gloves. If Juan Manuel Marquez retires then he can take his knockout win over what some people were calling ‘the best fighter in the world.’”

Marquez says he will NOT fight Pacquiao again

marquez76By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank had better start looking for alternative opponent for his fighter Manny Pacquiao to face in September because Marquez told ESPN this week he’s not going to fight Pacquiao again. He’s already fought him four times, and his KO of Pacquiao in their fourth fight last December finished their series.

It looks like Arum is going to have to find someone for Pacquiao to fight instead if he wants to keep him busy. This actually might be beneficial for Arum in the long run because if he put Pacquiao back in with Marquez, there would be a good chance that Marquez would only KO the Filipino again.

Marquez will be taking a gamble fighting Pacquiao in Asia

marquez73By Chris Williams: Bob Arum of Top Rank and Manny Pacquiao are interested in taking their next fight with Juan Manuel Marquez outside of the United States to Asia in order to avoid paying high U.S taxes on the pay per view money that comes from the American boxing fans. Arum says it’s 39%, and he wants to stage Pacquiao’s next fight in Macau, which is a region in China.

If this move will truly allow Arum and Pacquiao a way to avoid paying the taxes they get from the money from American boxing fans then it sounds like a smart move. It might not be a good idea for the 39-year-old Marquez, though. He’s already arguably been jobbed three times in fights against Pacquiao in the U.S, and if he fights in Asia, it might be a risky thing for Marquez.

Pacquiao being given plenty of time to recover from KO

pac92By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has gotten his way with Manny Pacquiao no longer looking to slip in an April tune-up fight to get ready for a potential rematch against his conqueror Juan Manuel Marquez in September. Presumably, Arum couldn’t find anything for Pacquiao in any of the Asian countries that would bring him the kind of cash that he’s been getting for the past couple of years, so Arum abandoned the effort.

This is good news for Pacquiao because it’ll give his head extra time to recover from his vicious 6th round knockout loss to the Mexican warrior Marquez last December. At the same time it’ll give Arum more time to try and work a deal with Marquez to get him back in the ring with Pacquiao.

Pacquiao interested in fighting Marquez in China

pac67By Omar Torres: Yahoo! sports reports that Manny Pacquiao prefers to have his fifth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez to take place at the off shore Chinese gambling resort of Macau in China. Michael Koncz told Yahoo! Sports, the 39.6 percent tax rate Pacquiao would face if he were to fight in the U.S. makes a Las Vegas “a no go.”

I strongly believe that Juan Manuel Marquez is not going to like the idea of having to fight in China or in Asia much. The time zones are different and some of the fans from Mexico and U.S won’t be able to catch the fight live, only if your willing to watch it early in the morning with a cup of coffee.

Should Marquez fight Pacquiao again?

marquez93By Imtiaz Ahmed: There is only one answer to this question and that is NO, this is because Juan Manuel Marquez has nothing left to prove, he may as well retire now. The only sensible reason as to why Marquez kept fighting was to avenge his losses against Manny Pacquiao, now that he has done that he can retire with his legacy that he has left behind.

Fighting Pacquiao was always a thorn in Marquez’s side since the first fight where in my view Marquez was robbed off his rightful victory. After a few fights later there was still no real decisive winner so they fought again, but this time Marquez finally knocked Pacquiao out cold and got the respect and the glory he deserves, after all the years off hard grafting, blood sweat and tears Marquez pulled off the improbable, he caught Pacquiao with a flush right hand and down he went.

Arum worries Pacquiao-Marquez 5 bout could end up with fewer PPV sales it takes place outside U.S

pacBy Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao doesn’t like the idea of having a huge portion of the money he makes for his fights to be taken by the United States government in the form of taxes. With Pacquiao making millions of dollars from American boxing fans on pay per view, he reportedly loses 39.6 percent of that from taxes. To avoid that, Pacquiao wants his next fight, which possibly could be against Juan Manuel Marquez, to take place in one of the Asian countries.

Arum told Yahoo News “Manny can go back to Las Vegas and make $25 million, but how much of it will he end up with – $15 million? If he goes to Macau, perhaps his purse will be $20 million, but he gets to keep it all, so he will be better off.”
