Arum: Algieri isn’t an easy fight for Pacquiao

pac995By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is starting to show some concerns about having matched his No.1 money fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) with possibly the wrong guy in scheduling him to face the younger, taller, longer-armed, and highly mobile Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Arum isn’t coming right out and saying that he messed up, but he’s starting to show some serious worry about Pacquiao getting whipped by Algieri and exposed like he was by Juan Manuel Marquez 4 times and Tim Bradley.

Chris Algieri vs. Manny Pacquiao prediction

algieri5By Wilmar Patino: This November Chris Algieri and Manny Pacquiao square off in a PPV showdown on HBO from Macao, China.  They have contrasting styles. So much to take in account when making an in depth decision on what would happen when the 5’11 Algieri faces the small 5’6 Pacquiao. One thing I can assure you is that this will not be a Margarito/De La Hoya esque fight.  No, There are a lot of variables in which one should review in a scrupulous manner to make a prediction.

What we know about Chris Algieri: What we know is that Algieri has good boxing skills (not great). He’s a bit of a jabbing machine, uses lateral movement all night and tries to circle his way out of trouble. He can make some adjustments as the fight goes on and after his battle with Ruslan Provodnikov we know he’s disciplined, and capable of keeping his cool and stick with the game plan. We also know by now that he has heart.

Algieri plans on wearing Pacquiao down with a fast pace

algieri1546By Chris Williams: Unbeaten challenger Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) plans on taking advantage of Manny Pacquiao’s advanced age to try and wear down the 35-year-old with a fast pace in their fight on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Algieri, 30, believes that the soon to be 36-year-old Pacquiao can no longer fight at a sustained fast pace for a 12 round fight, and this is something he’s going to use to make him show his age.

Pacquiao with everything to lose in Algieri fight

pac777By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum may have done his No.1 money fighter Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) in a small way by matching him against obscure fighter Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) in their fight on November 22nd in Macao, China, but Arum ultimately is putting the 35-year-old Pacquiao in a position where his career is going to be on the brink of implosion should he lost to the 5’10” Algieri.

The casual boxing fans, the ones that will be purchasing the Pacquiao-Algieri fight on HBO pay-per-view, have no clue who Algieri is. The ones that do know who he is are largely unimpressed with his power and overall talent.

Algieri wants Mayweather after Pacquiao fight

algieri777322By Chris Williams: Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) is so confident that he’s going to beat the 35-year-old Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) that he already has who in mind that he’d like to fight in his first fight after the Pacquiao fight.

Algieri wants to fight WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (46-0, 26 KOs) in what would be a unification match. Algieri sees weakness in Pacquiao in terms of size, skills and age that he’ll be exploiting on November 22nd in their fight at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

“That’s where we’re looking [Mayweather],” Algieri said to RingTV.com.

Algieri: Pacquiao has never fought anyone like me

algieri444By Chris Williams: WBO light welterweight champion Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KO’s) plans on taking advantage of his youth, size and boxing ability to beat the 35-year-old WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) in their fight on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

Algieri thinks Pacquiao isn’t the same fighter anymore for whatever reason. He doesn’t know if it’s because he’s fighting in the wrong weight division or if it’s the ravages of time showing it’s ill effects on the Filipino star.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

pac746By MM (Matt McKinney): Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri are set to go head to head on November 22nd in the gambling Mecca of Macau China. Pacquiao’s title will be on the line since Algieri is moving up in weight to face him.

The Good: There is not much good I can say about this fight if I am honest with myself. I do believe that Algieri is showing a lot of guts to take this fight. Fresh off a shocking win over Ruslan Provodnikov, not many young fighters would want to face Manny Pacquiao in their very next fight. So my hat goes off to Algieri for challenging Manny, and challenging himself. I also like the fact that Manny is willing to give an up and comer, like Algieri a shot at his belt. Manny is not making outrageous demands such as; beat Adrien Broner, or beat Andre Berto, or defend your title three times and then you can fight me. Algieri, after all is a champion, and I do believe champions should fight champions no matter how much of a mismatch people think it is.

Cold War Collateral Damage: Manny Pacquiao

pac723By Cameron Stone: Sports fans were treated to a lovely spoof by rapper Drake, at the ESPY awards. Drake did his best Pacquiao impersonation, doing a fine jobs turning his “f’s” in soft “p’s” as he sang Disney hit, Let it go. I found this video exceptionally humorous! Unfortunately there are some predicaments that Pacquiao is in, that are no laughing matter.

Manny Pacquiao is a huge fish in a very small pond. Because of boxing’s current “Cold War” Top Rank and Golden boy fighters never get to meet in the ring. As it stands now though, a majority of the bigger catches are with Golden Boy.

Arum compares Algieri to Gene Tunney

algieri775By Chris Williams: In what has to be seen as a huge reach on Top Rank promoter Bob Arum’s part, he’s now comparing Chris Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs) to former heavyweight champion of the world Gene Tunney (65-1-1, 48 KOs) with his boxing skills and the way he fights. Algieri is facing WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs) on November 22nd at the Venetian Casino & Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China.

With Algieri hardly a household name in the U.S, Arum really has his work cut out for him to try and attract interest in this fight. Arum quite rightly believes that the pay-per-view numbers in the U.S likely won’t be tremendous, but he expects for the difference to be made up by him selling the Pacquiao-Algieri fight to Chinese audiences on pay-per-view at $4.

Is Chris Algieri bad news for Pacquiao?

pac125By Yannis Mihanos: After hitting the jackpot with his surprising victory over the heavy hitter Ruslan Provodnikov, Chris Algieri became a known fighter from virtually an unknown one. Suddenly many people in boxing know who Chris Algieri is.

So the question that automatically now surfaces is how much of a bad news is this new opponent for the people’s favorite champ and now WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao?

Pacquiao has to wait until the 22nd of November to fight. That’s for me the first bad news. All fans around the world with me included after that convincing victory over Timothy Bradley last April were expecting from Manny to fight more often than almost once a year.
