Roach sees Clottey as “passive”

Image: Roach sees Clottey as "passive"By Eric Thomas: Freddie Roach, the famous trainer of Manny Pacquiao, sees Joshua Clottey as a passive fighter, according to writer Nick Giongco of Tempo.com/ Roach says “Clottey is passive. Manny fights every second of every round and Clottey doesn’t do that. He just raises his arms.” I think what Roach is talking about with Clottey is that he often spends a considerable amount of time in every round just covering up and trying to block incoming fire. In that regards, Clottey’s style is much like Super Six tournament super middleweight contestant Arthur Abraham, who often spends much of every round just covering up and looking to block punches.

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey: Is this fight Pay Per View material?By Chris Williams: Let’s be real for a second about the March 13th fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey. Is this fight really pay-per-view material? I mean is it worth paying $49.95 – or whatever the price that they stick on it – to see what likely will end up as a huge mismatch between a star fighter (Pacquiao) and an obscure one (Clottey) that many casual boxing fans have never heard of.

2010 – Great Year of Boxing

Image: 2010 - Great Year of BoxingBy David Anderson: What seems to be the biggest upset for us boxing fans turned to be one of the most exciting year for boxing history. Late in 2009, rumors exist that a potential fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was set to happen on March 13, however due to some contract demands, the fight did not push thru. Instead Manny signed a fight with Joshua Clottey on the same fight date. Clottey, for some was virtually unknown. Many boxing fans did not know that Clottey exhibits one of the best defense and one of the toughest chin.

Image: Clottey: “I have everything to beat him” [Pacquiao]By Jason Kim: With few boxing fans giving him much of a chance to beat WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao on March 13th, former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey remains confident that he has what it takes to beat Pacquiao. In article at Boxing Talk, Clottey says “I have a lot of things to beat Manny Pacquiao. I have my defense in there and I’m a strong welterweight. He’s [Pacquiao] fighting one of the best out there and I think I have enough to beat him.”

Pacquiao vs. Clottey prediction: Look for Joshua to shock the world by stopping Manny

Image: Pacquiao vs. Clottey prediction: Look for Joshua to shock the world by stopping MannyBy Esteban Garduno: I hate to say this but I think Manny Pacquiao has finally met his match against 32-year-old Joshua Clottey. This is a case of Pacquiao facing someone too big, too strong and too skilled defensively for him to win. Think of Clottey as tank with heavy armor and Pacquiao as an infantry soldier with rifle, a knife and a shovel. With those crude tools, there’s no way that a soldier is going to be able to get through the armor of that tank without the use of a mine or rocket propelled firing weapon.

Should Pacquiao retire after the Clottey bout?

By Dave Lahr: World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be facing a tough test on March 13th against former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey. There are those people who think this is going to be an easy fight, but I’m not one of them. Pacquiao is going to get hit more times in this fight perhaps than he ever has been during his career. The reason is because Clottey, with his steel chin, won’t be going anywhere when Pacquiao starts tagging him.

And what if Pacquiao is `CLEAN`?

Image: And what if Pacquiao is `CLEAN`?By Dezzie Lightbulb: Boxing has always been plagued with `what ifs`. What if Ali and Tyson had met in the ring, each in his prime? What if Cotto`s team had properly checked Margarito`s gloves before their fight? What if such and such a judge had bought himself a new pair of spectacles the day of yet another crazy decision? What if, what if, what if! These questions can never be fully answered. They can haunt us, and remain as cruelly tantalizing after twenty years as they were the first day. The latest `what if` to storm the boxing world is; `what if Pacquiao has been using PEDs or steroids?
