Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters on November 26

Vasyl Lomachenko

By Chris Williams: Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4 KOs) will be defending his WBO super featherweight title against fellow Top Rank fighter Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) on November 26 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. This is great news for boxing fans, especially those who were tired of waiting for Lomachenko and Walters to finally face each other.

The fight should have been made in 2015 rather than at the tail end of 2016. It’s better late than never. Lomachenko and Walters have both reportedly signed the contract for the fight, which will be televised on HBO Championship Boxing unless Top Rank promoter Bob Arum chooses to go it alone by having them fight on his own show. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.

Arum working on Crawford-Postol and Lomachenko-Walters

crawford43By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is still having problems putting together a fight between WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) and former WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) for June 11th. Arum wants to televise the fight on HBO Championship Boxing and stage it at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Arum is having problems due to Walters asking for more money than he’s willing to give. If he can’t get Walters to come down in price, Arum will look to get a replacement opponent to match against Lomachenko.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters possible for June 11

walters34By Allan Fox: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is working on a long awaited fight between former WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) and current WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenklo (5-1, 3 KOs) for June 11 on HBO at Madison Square Garden in New York.

It would be a good location for the fight because a lot of Ukrainian and/or Russians could come see Lomachenko fight. Also on the same card, Arum is looking to add unbeaten WBC light welterweight champion Viktor Postol in defending his title against #6 WBC Adrian Granados. It would be an interesting fight for the co-feature if Arum can put the fight together.

Arum had been hoping to have the Lomachenko-Walters fight televised on HBO on April 30, but it wasn’t possible to do the fight at that time. Lomachenko would be moving up to super featherweight to face the 29-year-old Walters, who clearly can’t make the featherweight division weight limit of 126lbs any longer at this point in his career.

Arum says Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Nicholas Walters is done!

arum4By Tim Fletcher: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says a fight between WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs) and former WBA Super World featherweight champion Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters (26-0-1, 21 KOs) is done, and he’s now just looking for a network to televise the fight.

It’s hard to imagine HBO turning down such a great fight like this. Walters, 30, lost his WBA 126lb title last year in June 2015, when he came in one-pound overweight for his title defense against Miguel Marriaga. Walters still easily won the fight by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision, but he lost his WBA title due to him coming in overweight.

Is Nicholas Walters next for Takashi Uchiyama?

walters45By Paul Lam: As expected, reigning WBA Super Featherweight Champion, Takashi Uchiyama, made short work of overmatched challenger, WBA number 6 Oliver Flores in his customary New Year’s Eve title defence. After an initial feeling out phase, Uchiyama started to connect with hard, accurate punches and, by the end of the second round, Flores was already marked up.

In the third round, Uchiyama sent Flores to the canvas with a wicked liver shot. Referee Luis Pabon dispensed with the count at 7 seconds, as it was clear that Flores was not getting up and he remained on the canvas for a few minutes before recovering sufficiently to get back on his feet.

The final judges’ scores were 96-94 for Sosa, and 95-95 and 95-95.

Ortiz-Jennings, Gonzalez-Shabranskyy, & Clottey-Rosado tonight on HBO

Image: Ortiz-Jennings, Gonzalez-Shabranskyy, & Clottey-Rosado tonight on HBO(Photo Credit: Ed Mulholland/HBO) By Dan Ambrose: In one of HBO’s better cards in 2015, heavyweights Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) and Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) will be going at it tonight at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York.

The Ortiz vs. Jennings card is absolutely stacked with high caliber fighters from top to bottom, and almost any of the undercard fights could work as a main event as a substitute for the Ortiz-Jennings fight.

Bryant Jennings has tough task against Luis Ortiz

jennings(Photo By Team Jennings) By Tim Fletcher: #6 WBA Bryant Jennings (19-1, 10 KOs) has a really tough task set out for himself this month in his fight against the bigger and stronger interim WBA World heavyweight champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (23-0, 20 KOs) on December 19th in a fight televised by HBO Championship Boxing from the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York.

This is a tough fight for the 31-year-old Jennings, because he’ll be giving away a lot in terms of the punching power in facing the 36-year-old former Cuban amateur. Jennings does have the youth advantage over Ortiz, and possibly the better engine.
