Darchinyan hoping for third fight against Donaire if he beats Nicholas Walters

darchinyan4334By Chris Williams: Vic Darchinyan (39-6-1, 28 KO’s) would like nothing better than to upset Top Rank’s plans on matching Nonito Donaire up against WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (23-0, 19 KO’s) by beating Walters in their fight this Saturday night at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Darchinyan says Donaire likely won’t agree to fight him now due to the problems that he gave him in their second fight last November.

Darchinyan cracked Donaire’s cheekbone with one of his big left hand shots in the fight. But Darchinyan believes that he can force Donaire to fight him by beating Walters and then beating IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich to unify the division. At that point Donaire won’t have much choice but to fight him again, and Darchinyan says he’s stronger now because he’s put on more size since he fought Donaire.

Vic Darchinyan vs. Nicholas Walters on May 31st in Macao, China

darchinyan4By Chris Williams: Former two division world champion Vic Darchinyan (39-6-1, 28 KO’s) will be fighting his second consecutive fight in the 126lb division when he faces WBA World featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (23-0, 19 KO’s) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort, Macao, Macao S.A.R., China. Walters is the guy that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had wanted to match against Nonito Donaire, but he changed his mind for some reason after Donaire had his faced fractured in his last fight against Darchinyan last November. Donaire won the fight by a 9th round TKO, but he suffered a hairline fracture in his face in that fight.

Darchinyan did such a good job in that fight that they decided to let him fight on HBO again in the featherweight division, even though he’s someone who hasn’t been a really effective fighter since he left the super flyweight division years ago. Darchinyan was nearly unbeatable at flyweight and super flyweight, but there was no money in those divisions, so he kept moving up in weight to chase the bigger fights.

Arum wants Nonito Donaire vs. Nicholas Walters next

donaire99By Chris Williams: While Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO’s) may have been talking last Saturday night after his win over Vic Darchinyan about wanting to avenge his loss to Cuban WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux next, Donaire’s promoter Bob Arum is reportedly targeting WBA featherweight title holder Nicholas Walkers (23-0, 19 KO’s) for Donaire’s next fight instead of Rigondeaux.

Arum told RingTV “Walters punches like a mule. He’s not technically great, but geez, is he strong. That fight [Donaire vs. Walkers] would be a great fight. It would be bombs away. We’ll have to talk to Donaire to see when he’s ready to fight again. Walkers ready to go as soon as possible, so we’ll figure it out.”
