By Jim Dower: With little over a month to go before the September 19th fight between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez, the bout is attracting little attention and rarely discussed at all on the internet. It’s as if the fight isn’t even taking place, because there is barely a peep being mentioned about the fight. That’s not a good sign for Mayweather, because the bout will be pay-per-view and will be competing with the UFC 103 event, which takes place on the same night for a lot less money.
By Richard Bailey: Before I get started, let me just say that I don’t disagree with the fact that Floyd was the pound for pound king, because he definitely was. I just never could understand why his opponents weren’t the best in the latter part of his career as they were in the beginning? His speed and class, and the way he made fights look so easy made you either have a love or hate opinion of him. His victories at Super Featherweight made us all assume he would fight anyone.

Though the gladiators of the division may be small in stature they effortlessly eclipse all other divisions and completely embarrass boxing’s supposed glamor (now in shambles) division, the Heavyweights. It is in a competitive landscape that true all time greats had the opportunity to reveal their championship character.

True boxing fans are routing for this to be a great fight that will answer two questions. One, does Mayweather still have what it takes to the reclaim his crown as the pound 4 pound king of boxing? Two, or does Marquez possess the skills & ability to pull off a major upset, and further his right to be regarded as the new pound 4 pound king?

With the rescheduled fight, boxing fans can also look forward to the HBO Series, Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 which lets us step into their lives before they step into their rings. Catchy yes, and I’ll be the first to admit, the past series’ have gotten me pumped about their respective bouts. De La Hoya-Pacquiao 24/7, Pacquiao-Hatton 24/7, Mayweather-Hatton 24/7 all got me even more excited about fights that I was looking forward to seeing already.

I ask you to ask yourself the question: Is Floyd Mayweather Jr. as good as he claims he is, or is his image as an invincible fighter and one that cannot be beat, a product of our imaginations due to his own hype machine? I can’t answers this question for you, but I can tell you my opinion.
By Dave Lahr: Unbeaten welterweight Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25 KO’s) has reportedly pulled out of his previously scheduled July 18th bout against Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather Jr., now 32, injured one of his ribs while training for his fight against the 35-year-old Marquez. As of now, it’s unknown when Mayweather will be able to get back to training.
