mayweather-marquez2By Joel Nepomuceno: So Mayweather/ Marquez has officially been rescheduled for September 19th at the MGM Grand. With the rescheduled fight, boxing fans can also look forward to the HBO Series, Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 which lets us step into their lives before they step into their rings. Catchy yes, and I’ll be the first to admit, the past series’ have gotten me pumped about their respective bouts. De La Hoya-Pacquiao 24/7, Pacquiao-Hatton 24/7, Mayweather-Hatton 24/7 all got me even more excited about fights that I was looking forward to seeing already.

But I’ll be honest with you. Mayweather-Marquez “Number One/ Numero Uno” just doesn’t get my heart pumping. The thought of two counter punchers facing each other, in addition to one of them being “Pretty Boy” Floyd “Money” Mayweather makes me think about other things that I could spend my hard earned cash on. Hey man, it’s a recession so I have to watch where the money goes. From the feedback that I’ve read and that I’ve gotten, Mayweather – Marquez, probably won’t be a big box office smash. I doubt they’ll even do close to 500k in PPV buys. Great numbers by most stretches of the imagination, but far short of the numbers of a so-called “Mega Fight”. Maybe the thought of putting money in Mayweather’s pockets after he chooses to go after a lightweight is enough to turn the public off. But I’m sure that even though I’m not excited to spend the money on the PPV event, once I watch one episode of Mayweather-Marquez 24/7, I’ll be hooked and so will my $50 to watch the fight.

With that, I’m sure there are a few more things to look forward to when the Mayweather-Marquez 24/7 Series starts on HBO, August 29th. And so, here are the things that I predict we’ll be seeing in the upcoming series:

Floyd Mayweather
In a moment when Mayweather is being Mayweather, he looks at the camera and says, “Is Marquez ready to die? Because I am~when I fight, I put my life on the line, I’m ready to die, is he?” as the camera cuts to him doing sit ups, or doing that pitter patter thing he does on the pads with his uncle.

Juan Manuel Marquez
Juan Manuel Maruez in sweats, tirelessly hits a big tire with a hammer. He says that he deserved to win both Pacquiao fights as they cut to shots of him trading blows with Pacquiao, then Pacquiao’s hands raised in victory, crying and the look of disappointment of Marquez’s face.

Floyd Mayweather
At least once, there will be a shot of Floyd Mayweather, rapping as he throws money into the camera. He’ll make some sort of rap about claiming what’s rightfully his, and how he’s got so much money, then cut to a shot of him, listening to music in his Ferrari as he strolls down the Vegas Strip.

Juan Manuel Marquez
Shots of him playing with his 12 kids. In an emotional moment, he reveals that everything he does, he does for his kids. He wants to provide his kids the best life possible and that’s why he’s chosen the life he has now.

Floyd Mayweather
Ditto. Except that when the show Mayweather’s kids, Mayweather will be chasing them around in a Segway.

Juan Manuel Marquez
Shots of the great Nacho Beristain talking about how Marquez is almost like his son. The love they share is similar to that of a father and a son, and it brings a tear to his eye. The viewers eyes become watery as well.

Floyd Mayweather
As soon as Nacho Beristain’s eyes begin to water up, they quickly cut to Roger Mayweather. Floyd Mayweather says that it was a hard decision for him to go with his uncle instead of his father. Floyd Mayweather Sr. says, “That’s my son. No matter what, what happens between us…that will always be my son”.

Juan Manuel Marquez
Marquez tells the camera that he knows that nobody gives him a chance, but that why he is working so hard, to prove the experts wrong. To rightly claim his title, as the #1 Pound for Pound in the World. Then they cut to shots of him training, as the music gets more intense, so do his workouts.

Both
As the finale comes to a close, the music starts to get louder, while interchanging shots of Marquez and Mayweather trade on the TV. Liev Schrieber begins his conclusion about two warriors, from two different walks of life, colliding inside the ring. The music gets louder and the training shots of both fighters get more intense. Then it they cut to, Mayweather-Marquez September 19th on HBO PPV.

Once the music starts to play, I’m hooked again. I gladly fork over my $50, and anticipate an exciting fight. I get two counter punchers playing it safe with Mayweather winning a unanimous decision, neither of them ever being staggered. I look down in disgusts, as I know that HBO has got me again!
