Mayweather: Maidana is the better man than Khan

mayweather555By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. was interviewed last night by Showtime’s Steve Farhood last Friday night and asked by he had selected WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana to face next on May 3rd instead of Britain’s Amir Khan. This was the million question, because Mayweather had been previously been leaning in the direction of fighting the better known Khan due to the attention that a fight against him would get.

Mayweather pointed out that he liked the idea of fighting Maidana more than Khan due to what he’s done recently in the ring in winning some big fights. With Khan, he’s not done as well, Mayweather said. What’s interesting is that Mayweather didn’t speak about the poll on his website that Khan won. That was a poll where Mayweather asked boxing fans to select his next opponent, and it was believed at the time that Mayweather would fight whoever the fans picked.

Garcia to have Maidana use the Broner fight plan to defeat Mayweather

maidana6768By Poerqe: WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) is a much better boxer than his fighter, but at the same time, Garcia is convinced he has come up with a plan to give Mayweather his first loss when Maidana faces him on May 3rd this year. Garcia’s plan is to go back to what Maidana did in beating the Mayweather-like Adrien Broner last December by a 12 round unanimous decision. Maidana jumped on Broner immediately in that fight and put nonstop pressure on him and quickly overwhelmed Broner’s shoulder roll defense. Broner wasn’t able to keep up with Maidana’s high work rate.

Well this is interesting. Garcia, winner of 2012 trainer of the year, comes up with a plan to beat Mayweather. I am a huge fan of Robert Garcia. So i am anxious to know this plan. Well Garcia said in an interview with Fight hype:

Ariza giving Maidana a good chance of defeating Mayweather

maidana545By Chris Williams: WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) hit the lottery in getting picked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) to be his next opponent on May 3rd, but Maidana is already being dismissed as little more than the next sacrificial lamb by boxing fans due to his slow hands and feet. But Maidana’s strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza, who built a name as being the one that turned Manny Pacquiao into a powerful welterweight, believes that Maidana is going to shock the world by beating Mayweather on May 3rd.

Ariza is going to be buildig up Maidana’s body and making him the same powerful fighter that he did in transforming Pacquiao from a lightweight to a welterweight.

Time to Let It Go, Khan

khan443By Ammar: Well we finally have the verdict. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) will be fighting Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) on May 3rd at a venue to still be determined. I am not going to get into who will give Mayweather the most trouble. Either fighter will probably lose big time. Maidana will have a hard time landing his crushing blows while Khan would repeatedly get countered and put down a few times during the fight.

Which brings us Khan being snubbed for this fight for what was termed as his “left-overs”.  This is false as Maidana has put together an impressive streak of wins over decent competition, punctuated by a recent win over someone who was pegged as the next Mayweather.

Mayweather vs. Maidana Undercard

broner6767Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0-0 22 KOs) has to hold on to his interim WBA belt for another year longer.  It seems that Floyd “Money” Mayweather (45-0-0 26 KOs) swooped in and took Marcos Maidana (35-3-0 31 KOs) away from him and Adrien “The Problem” Broner.  With the recent plan changes, Broner is tweeting that he wants to fight on his big brother’s undercard.  It seems that Thurman versus Broner is the most logical choice for that night.

Considering the fact that Thurman retained his interim belt with a one-sided knockout victory over Jesus Soto Karass the same night Broner lost to Maidana, it was Thurman that should have been the one fighting Broner that night hence the point of an interim belt.

Broner asked his fans on his twitter if he should fight on the undercard, and he obviously was looking for some kind of interest.

Bunce thinks Khan was messed around by Mayweather

khan4045By Scott Gilfoid: British boxing writer Steve Bunce thinks Amir Khan was done wrong by Floyd Mayweather Jr. by him choosing to twist Khan around recently by giving him hope for a fight with him on May 3rd, but then pulling the rug out from under him and selecting WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana as his next opponent instead. Bunce doesn’t have a problem with Mayweather’s choice of Maidana. Instead, Bunce’s issue is with how Khan was strung along.

“What’s bad about it is the way it’s been done,” Bunce said to Talksport. “I’ve got no problem with the final decision, the problem is that it was all done in the open. It was very shabby…Let’s not mince our words, Amir has been conned here. He’s been played. It’s really hurt him. It would have been life-changing money for Amir Khan. He could have ended up leaving Las Vegas with as much as $14 million in his back pocket.”

Maidana: Beating Mayweather will make me feel like I hit the lottery

By Allan Fox: While some boxing fans may feel that WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) won the lottery by being selected over Amir Khan to get a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) on May 3rd, but Maidana doesn’t feel that way. As you can see, he says he won’t be feeling like he hit the lottery until he beats the 37-year-old Mayweather in their important fight.

Marcos Maidana To Face Boxing’s Pound 4 Pound King Mayweather In A Mega Fight

maidana678By Rocky Esposito: What an amazing ride it has been for Marcos Maidana. There have been many highs in his career, with a few heart wrenching lows/loses in between. Maidana’s very first fight in the U.S. was vs Victor Ortiz back June of 2009. Many fans might not have remembered this, but just four months prior to the fight with Ortiz, Maidana had just suffered the very first loss of his professional career. He lost an extremely close (115-113, 114-115, 113-115) split decision to Andriv Kotelnik in Germany. Many observers of the fight thought the decision should have went Marcos’ way.

Regardless, now he was facing Victor Ortiz and fighting on U.S. soil for the very first time. Maidana knew going into the fight he could not afford another loss. Most Boxing fans remember this fight as a Modern Day Classic. Ortiz put Maidana down in Round 1, but Maidana got up and immediately knocked Victor down to even the score. Ortiz then put Maidana down twice in Round 2, but Maidana got up each time.

Khan left out in the cold by Mayweather with his pick of Maidana for his next fight

khan#9By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan has just received the news about Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) getting picked by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26 KO’s) for his next fight on May 3rd in Las Vegas, Nevada or the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, and Khan isn’t sounding too cheerful judging by his post on his twitter page. Khan said “Let’s just leave everything up to God. Hope you all having a good day. Gym time for me shortly. Speak later.”

I hate to say it, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, Khan. You had your chance and you royally blew it by now making the fight moves.
