Mayweather Jr. suffers a bloody nose in sparring for Guerrero fight

floyd32By Allan Fox: Floyd Mayweather Jr. suffered a bloody nose last Friday during a sparring session to get ready for his fight this Saturday night against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. According to AP, Mayweather was nailed by a forearm that somehow was able to get in between his head-gear during the sparring session and bloody his nose.

Luckily for Mayweather, his nose wasn’t broken from the shot, but it’s still a dangerous thing to happen this close to the fight. An injury to Mayweather’s nose would cause the fight to be postponed and that would be bad news for everyone, especially Mayweather because he’s got 30 months to fulfill a six-fight contract with Showtime/CBS.

Canelo: Hoping Guerrero will beat Mayweather on Saturday

Floyd Mayweather gets gloves onBy Dan Ambrose: WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez thinks Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) will defeat unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) this Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Canelo is really hoping that takes place because his chances of getting a fight with Guerrero are quite high, even though Canelo would likely out-weigh Guerrero by 25 pounds by the time they stepped foot in the ring.

Canelo said to Showtime: “All the work we put in the strategy we had for this fight went very well, and most importantly we won. It was a fight where we couldn’t throw a lot of punches because he’s a southpaw because of the style. I came to fight my fight and win the way I thought I would win and I’m very pleased with the victory and I’m going to repeat:

Robert Guerrero: God has prepped me to take over boxing

Prayer before workoutBy Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) is saying that God has singled him out to take over the sport of boxing by beating undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) next month in Las Vegas, Nevada. Guerrero is stuck on the angle of wanting to humble Mayweather by beating him in front of the world and he feels that God will help him achieve his goal.

At their recent media conference, Guerrero said “God’s groomed me and prepped me for this time to take over boxing. That’s why it’s like a modern day David and Goliath…God’s put me in this position for a reason.”

Mayweather: Guerrero is a dirty, flat-footed fighter

005_Robert_GuerreroBy Dan Ambrose: WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) didn’t know much about Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s) before agreeing to defend his title against him on May 4th in Las Vegas, Nevada, but since the fight was signed, Mayweather has discovered that Guerrero is a “dirty fighter” in his view and with a “flat-footed” fighting style.

Mayweather to Showtime: “From what I’ve seen, he’s [Guerrero] just a very, very dirty fighter. There’s nothing sharp about his fight game, but he’s here; he’s the guy in front of me and we’ll just have to see what he brings to the table come May 4th. He says he’s been calling me out for a year, but I really don’t know him except for the couple of clips that we’ve seen. Just for starters, he’s a flat-footed fighter. I’m a warrior. I know how to win. Come fight night, I’m able to expose any fighter. We the ghost busters.”

Mayweather weighing 147 already for Guerrero bout

Floyd MayweatherBy Chris Williams: With a week and a half to go before his May 4th fight against WBC interim welterweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-1-1, 18 KO’s), Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) is already at 147 lbs for the fight and has been for the past two days, according to Dan Rafael.

This isn’t Mayweather rehydrating to make 147. He actually weighs 147 and will likely come into the fight weighing that on the night of the fight. This is obviously a great reason why Mayweather can’t fight WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez because this fighter rehydrated up to 172 lbs. and above and that would give him a 25 pound weight advantage over Mayweather if the fight were to be made.

Schaefer: No decisions on Canelo’s next fight until after Mayweather-Guerrero fight

canelo6By Chris Williams: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he won’t be making any decisions about the next fight for WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez until after the May 4th fight between WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, according to Steve Kim.

The most likely next opponent for Canelo’s next fight is Miguel Cotto in September. Schaefer mentioned that Cotto is a possibility, but he wants to wait for the Mayweather-Guerrero fight outcome so that he can make a stab at trying to get Mayweather or Guerrero to fight Canelo next.

Getting Guerrero to take the fight with Canelo would be easy because Guerrero would take the fight in a second.

Guerrero’s dad: Mayweather regrets accepting the fight with “The Ghost”

mayweather77By Chris Williams: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero’s dad thinks he smells fear coming from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father Floyd Sr. and his uncle Roger Mayweather and he thinks Mayweather Jr. is now regretting having accepted the fight against the 29-year-old Guerrero.

Guerrero’s dad said: “I think they have a little regret taking it [the fight with Guerrero]. That’s why they’re talking a lot of smack; that’s why he’s got his dad in his corner now; that’ why he’s got two guys [in his corner]; him and his uncle now against me because they know what’s coming. Guerrero’s coming at him. Mayweather’s a great fighter but he talks all big. The word is out that he was in protective custody.

Mayweather: Guerrero is a dumbass; his pressure won’t work against me

mayweather6By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (43-0, 26 KO’s) sees Robert Guerrero’s game plan in how to beat him with pressure is simplistic one and feels it won’t work. Guerrero is going to be using the same method that’s been tried against Mayweather by numerous fighters in the past without success, and Mayweather doesn’t understand why Guerrero doesn’t have something else he can use because the pressure isn’t going to work.

Mayweather said: “43 had a game plan. ‘We’re going to keep pressure on Mayweather.’ It’s not going to work. The game plan is to just come in and get your payday, you f*****g dumbass.”
