Pacquiao’s shoulder surgery makes Mayweather rematch unlikely

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Allan Fox: The odds of the 36-year-old Manny Pacquiao getting a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the future took a nosedive this Monday with the news of Pacquiao needing shoulder surgery on his right rotator cuff to repair a “significant tear.”

The surgery is expected to keep Pacquiao out of the ring for 9-12 months, which means he likely won’t be back inside the ring until early 2016. Mayweather has already said that his last fight of his career will be this September. After that he’ll be retiring from the sport.

Did Pacquiao believe that he could beat Mayweather with one arm?

1-MAYPAC-FIGHTNIGHT-TRAPPFOTOS-5662By Allan Fox: One question that many people have right now about last Saturday’s Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight was why Pacquiao chose to fight Mayweather with a preexisting injury to his right shoulder. Boxing fans don’t understand that move, as they had to pay big money to see the fight on PPV and live.

Pacquiao to undergo surgery, will be sidelined nine months to one year

pacmay2By Raj Parmar: In the aftermath of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao mega fight this past weekend, the sports world has been largely disappointed by the one-sidedness of what was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” The unbeaten Mayweather (48-0, 26 KO’s) was able to easily dominate Pacquiao (57-6, 38 KO’s) over 12 rounds for a relatively easy unanimous decision.

Manny claimed in the post-fight press conference that he struggled to attack Mayweather with the same ferocity and aggressiveness that he has become famous for due to a shoulder injury that occurred in training about three weeks before the actual fight.

This was the fight that was going to show the world why boxing was still brilliant, people have viewed boxing as a sport nowhere near the level of times gone by, too many belts, so many meaningless fights.

Mayweather vacating his titles will save him money in sanctioning fees

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. said over the weekend that he’ll be vacating his world titles on Monday. While some fans aren’t too clear on why Mayweather would want to vacate his titles, perhaps one reason is due to the huge money he’ll be saving in terms of the sanctioning fees for each of the belt.

Mayweather, like a lot of world champions, has to pay sanctioning fees for his belts. At this point it really doesn’t matter if Mayweather has world titles or not because he’s already established himself and the titles aren’t needed to validate him as the top fighter in the sport.
