Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could Face Amir Khan Next

floyd724by Miguel Alejandro Lopez: Floyd Mayweather Jr., (45-0), is coming off two big wins in 2013 against Robert Guerrero and former undefeated champion Canelo Alvarez. Shortly after the Alvarez fight, rumors began to circulate that Money’s next opponent is the British boxing star, Amir Khan (28-3). Although nothing is settled at this point, there has been several indications that the two will mix it up soon in Cinco De Mayweather 2014.

When Floyd Jr. is about to fight someone, his father is usually the first to spill it out to the media as a sort of advanced promotion. Floyd Sr. said to the press: “If there’s one fighter whose a** I want Floyd to whip it’s Amir Khan – he’s no outstanding fighter and as long as he stays here he’ll keep getting his a** whipped.”

Khan: Negotiations with Mayweather are underway

khan4343By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan is saying that Golden Boy Promotions are trying to negotiate a fight between him and Floyd Mayweather Jr. right now. How serious negotiations are is unclear because Golden Boy is pushing hard to try and get Mayweather to fight their future cash cow WBA/WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and they need that fight badly for the Mexican fighter to gain a wide audience in the U.S.

Khan said to I Film London “Negotiations are underway. It’s a fight that Floyd Mayweather wants, and it a fight I’d want to take. I’d love to be in the same ring with Mayweather. I know he has flaws. I think my speed will make a difference in this fight. I think I can make a very tough fight for him.”

Mayweather wants to fight in UK; Khan the obvious target

mayweather2256By Scott Gilfoid: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s adviser Leonard Ellerbe is saying that Mayweather Jr. plans on fighting in the UK at some point in the near future. He doesn’t say who Mayweather will be fighting but it seems pretty clear that Amir Khan will be the target for Mayweather because it would be pointless for him to fight Kell Brook or the other little known welterweights and light welterweights in the UK.

Khan is the only game in town for Mayweather, but he better make that fight quick because Khan could get knocked out in his next fight if he’s serious about wanting to fight for a world title.
