By Sean McDaniel: Top WBO heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers (35-2, 18 KO’s) experienced a really bad knockout defeat last Saturday night when he was stopped in the 12th round by IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s) at the ESPRIT arena, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Chambers, 27, was badly knocked out after getting nailed by a monstrous left hook to the head from Klitschko, who wound up with the shot and reduced Chambers to a pile of rubble in the corner. Chamber suffered a bad concussion and was motionless after being dropped by Klitschko. There was no movement from Chambers for at least 25 seconds after the knock out.

Wladimir Klitschko’s win over Chambers might not have been impressive enough
By Jason Kim: Although IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (54-3, 48 KO’s) dominated American Eddie Chambers (35-2, 18 KO’s) for the entire 12 rounds and eventually stopped him in the 12th round last Saturday night for an exciting ending to the fight, it might not have been enough to impress American television network executives at HBO to want to put Klitschko on their cable network in the future. We’ll have to see what happens, but I don’t think this is the kind of performance that Klitschko needed to make a statement for himself as the kind of fighter that the average American boxing fan wants to see for an entertaining fight.

Chambers, 27, never had a chance and received a one-sided beating for 12 rounds that was strangely reminiscent of Klitschko’s first win over Chris Byrd 10 years ago in 2000.

Fighting in front of 51,000 fans, Wladimir put an end to a one-sided fight with a big sweeping left hook to the head of the 27-year-old Chambers in the 12th round with only five seconds to go in the fight. Chambers hit the canvas in a heap, badly hurt from the knockout punch.

But it took the urging of his trainer Emanuel Steward for the 33-year-old Klitschko to man up and go for the knockout. With Steward all over his backside, Klitschko came out for the 12th round on fire, throwing right hands with abandon and driving Chambers all around the ring.

In the old days you had fighters who were well under 200lbs fighting at heavyweight and becoming champions because there was no cruiserweight division but looking at Eddie Chambers, and his soft waistline, I ask myself “Why not put in the work to be a great cruiserweight?” Chambers has had some success at heavyweight but has already been defeated (Povetkin), he has above average hand speed, decent power and a decent chin.

American Eddie Chambers (35-1, 18 KO’s) is coming into this fight the much smaller fighter compared to the 6’6” Klitschko, and doesn’t have the power to make Wladimir respect him. Without power to keep Wladimir from holding back on his power shots, Chambers will be a sitting duck in the early going of the fight. Chambers will not want to trade after getting hit with some of Wladimir]s big shots in the first few rounds.

By Dave Lahr: If Wladimir Klitschko had a chin, he’d something special. He just doesn’t have the chin to be a great one I hate to say. Eddie Chambers is stepping into tonight’s fight with Klitschko as a huge underdog. Few people think that the small 6’1” 209 pound Chambers will win.
I’ve seen both fighters compete on a number of different occasions and know what they’re both capable of doing in the right, and I see the quickness of Chambers being the decisive factor in this fight. Klitschko is all arms and legs, a clumsy heavyweight for the most part.

In this case, Haye has come out of the woodwork all of a sudden to question IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, who is fighting tomorrow night in Dusseldorf, Germany, against Eddie Chambers. In an article at the Guardian, Haye says “I’d like to fight them [the Klitschko brothers] in the UK, because everyone knows the German boxing atmosphere is crap. It’s just dull. I’d hate to have one of my defining fights in front of a bunch of boring Germans.”

In an article at Yahoo Sports, Steward says “Chambers is the best he’s ever fought, but Wladimir is in the form of his life and he’ll win by KO by round 8 at the latest.”
