Should Maidana just move on from the Khan fight?

Image: Should Maidana just move on from the Khan fight?By Mark Hepplestall: On the 11th of December Marcos Maidana was soundly beaten and outboxed by WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, this was a fight were the more intelligent fan could see that Khan was going to coast to a unanimous points decision by boxing and moving for all 12 rounds, and then there was the more primitive fan that just wanted to see Amir Khan knocked out. Thing is neither of these happened and even though Amir Khan won the fight by a wider margin then one of the judges had it Maidana still doesn’t see how he lost and is demanding a rematch.

Maidana says he’d be willing to fight Khan in England: Does Amir want to tempt fate a second time?

By William Mackay: The hard hitting Marcos Maidana (29-2, 27 KO’s) says he’d be willing to travel to England to fight WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) in a rematch. Speaking on his twitter page, Maidana said “I’d go to England right now to pick what I left in Las Vegas and beat him.” Khan was incredibly lucky to have survived his fight with Maidana in December, winning by a 12 round decision after getting badly hurt in the 10th and having to hang on during the last three rounds while Maidana used his head as pinata.

Will Khan use the Maidana win as an excuse not to have to face punchers from now on?

Image: Will Khan use the Maidana win as an excuse not to have to face punchers from now on?By William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan has been saying he wants to limit the amount of fights like he had in his last bout against the Argentinian knockout artist Marcos Maidana in December. Khan says he proved that he has a good chin by standing up to Maidana’s shots. I don’t agree. I think Khan hasn’t proven anything, and I don’t agree with Khan’s fans who feel that because Khan beat Maidana, he doesn’t have to prove himself against other big punchers in the future like Breidis Prescott or Lucas Matthysse.

Will Khan ever be the same after the Maidana beating?

By Michael Lieberman: I’m a big fan of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) and think he’s got great boxing skills. I am worried about all the punishment he took in his fight with Marcos Maidana in December, and I’m especially worried about all the head shots Khan took in the 10th through 12th rounds.

Is it a bad sign that Khan was running around the ring like a chicken with it’s head cut off against Maidana?

By Scott Gilfoid: Usually when you have a fighter that’s being hyped and groomed for so-called greatness they’re supposed to look good, look brave and look sensational. Somehow I don’t get that picture when I see WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan. In watching Khan’s fight against Marcos Maidana last month, my picture of Khan was that of a big chicken running around the ring like it’s head had been cut off.

Should Khan have been penalized for shoving, clinching and pushing down on Maidana’s head?

By William Mackay: I’m still stunned that Marcos Maidana was the one that was penalized in his fight with Amir Khan in December. It seems so wrong. Maidana gets penalized for throwing an elbow that hits referee Joe Cortez, while Khan gets away with repeatedly shoving Maidana hard when he was in close trying to fight, clinching frequently and pushing down on Maidana’s head.

Amir Khan’s lack of defensive technique needs fixing

Image: Amir Khan’s lack of defensive technique needs fixingBy Norman Marshall: World Boxing Association (WBA ) light welter weight champion Amir Khan deserves praise for the way he withstood the constant pressing and attacking of Marcos Maidana. Khan showed heart and ability to tough it out when he had to.

The problem though, is that although Maidana was tough and strong, his attacks lacked guile and were rarely set up in combinations. At times Amir looked flustered and pressured. I believe the reason for this is that Amir has a gap in his repertoire.

Maidana exposed Khan’s lack of an inside game

Image: Maidana exposed Khan's lack of an inside gameBy Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) has some fatal flaws with his game that are going to get him in deep trouble in the near future when he’s finished cherry picking his next opponent. Khan has committed himself to facing the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley fight, and those are two fighters that Khan doesn’t have the skills to beat. Khan was exposed badly by his last opponent Marcos Maidana, who showed again and again that Khan has no inside game.
