This probably isn’t the kind of news that Khan was hoping to get, since Maidana is one of the biggest punchers in the light welterweight division with killer strength and true one-punch power.

Image: Haye, Froch and Khan: Will they find success in 2010?By William Mackay: 2009 was an exciting year for British boxing with David Haye capturing the WBA heavyweight title with a win over 7-foot Nikolay Valuev, WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch defeating American Andre Dirrell in the Super Six tournament, and Amir Khan winning the WBA light welterweight title with a 12 round decision over Andriy Kotelnik. These were all good wins for the British fighters, and it helped bring British boxing back to the forefront. But with this success, we must look forward to 2010 to see if these fighters will be able to continue with their recent success.

The thought here is that this is a great fight for Khan to show his talent to American audiences in the U.S. However, the big question is whether Khan will opt to fight Maidana – and risk being knocked flat like Amir was against Breidis Prescott in Khan’s 1st round knockout loss in September 2008, or will Khan choose to defend the title.

Maidana, 26, was previously looking at a fight against WBC light welterweight champion Devon Alexander in March, in a fight that would have likely been shown on HBO. However, Maidana instead is looking to get a fight with Khan. The WBA, Rick Reeno says, ordered that the winner of Khan’s December 5th bout against Dmitriy Salita would have to face Maidana, the interim champion, next.

Khan-Maidana: Amir is willing to put his belt on the line

maidana358811By Peter Wells: Despite what other writers are saying mainly Liam Santiago, Khan is willing to fight Marcos Maidana next year. The an article by the Telegraph, Amir Khan said that he is willing to fight, Marcos Maidana, Juan Manuel Marquez and Victor Ortiz. Personally I wouldn’t like to see Ricky fight again, being a big Hatton fan I’d prefer he not take the rick. Marquez isn’t a particularly good option for Khan, ever since Marquez lost to Mayweather, everybody thinks Marquez is washed up and a fighter like Khan could finish him off.
