Amir Khan says Kell brook fight possible in 2017

khan836

By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like Amir Khan’s knockout loss to Saul Canelo Alvarez last May has instilled a sense of urgency in Khan with him talking about wanting to fight Kell Brook. That fight would likely take place at the end of 2017. Khan says he wants a tune-up fight in his next match in January.

Let’s be honest; Khan can’t afford to wait much longer before fighting Brook, because both guys are nearing the end of their careers in terms of being relevant fighters. If they don’t fight each other soon, it’ll be too late for their fight to attract interest. I know some boxing fans will say that Brook is only 30 and has a ton of time remaining in his career.

If Brook were to go back down to 147 and go after WBC champion Danny Garcia or WBO champion Jessie Vargas, then I think he might have some more time left as a relevant contender/paper champion. However, Brook says he wants to fight at 154 to fight the winner of the Liam Smith vs. Saul Canelo Alvarez fight. I can’t see Brook winning that.

Hearn: Khan-Brook negotiations making progress

khan777By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn says he made some great progress in the last 24 hours in negotiations with Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) for a fight on June 4th at Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

Hearn says that 48 hours ago, he felt that the fight wouldn’t happen between Khan and Brook. However, after a phone call that he had with Team Khan in the last 24 hours, Hearn now feels that the fight will happen after all. Hearn is obviously excited about it. If the fight didn’t happen, Brook would be looking at trying to fight the winner of the Shawn Porter vs. Keith Thurman fight or against WBC champion Danny Garcia.

I think Brook loses badly to Porter or Thurman. A fight against Garcia would be a 50-50 affair. If it took place in the U.S., I couldn’t see Brook winning at all, period. The only way he beats Garcia in the U.S. is by knockout in my opinion.

Khan v Brook on course for June

brook9By Matt Plumridge: The eagerly anticipated – and some say long overdue – matchup between “Special K” Kell Brook (35-0) and Amir “King” Khan (31-3) for Brooks’ IBF Welterweight title has been penciled in for the 4th June at Wembley Stadium, London.

Brooks’ promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that he has both booked the venue and invited Khan’s management team back to the table for negotiations. Both fighters would stand to pocket a minimum of £3million each ($5 million) in what would be a potential 80,000 sell out, a box office hit in the UK and of reasonable interest on the world stage.

Neither fighter has ever gotten on well with the other – so that ill feeling hype, plus the fact that both look well matched, makes for the type of fight that will have boxing fans prepared to shell out their hard earned cash to see whether Khan or Kell will get the KO.

Hearn believes Khan-Brook deal can be done by next week

hearn333By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport will be meeting with Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) next week to put together a fight between him and Brook for next Summer.

Hearn believes that he can have the negotiations completed by next week for a mega-fight in the UK. Hearn notes that Khan didn’t get the important fight that he was hoping to bag against Filipino star Manny Pacquiao, so now all he has left is a fight against his fighter Brook (35-0, 24 KOs).

“I have said to Amir that if we don’t get this sorted in the next couple of weeks we will miss the boat for a summer fight,” Hearn said to sports360.com. “Amir’s not got the Pacquiao fight.”

Hearn says Khan-Brook could take place this summer

hearn54By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn says he thinks Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) will be facing his fighter IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) this coming summer in 2016.

Even Khan himself is saying he’ll be fighting Brook if he can’t get the fight that he’s been talking about wanting to get against Manny Pacquiao. Since it doesn’t look like Khan is going to be getting that fight, he’s kind of stuck with Brook as his only option for a big money fight.

Hearn pushing for Khan-Brook fight in June 2016

khan777By Scott Gilfoid: Eddie Hearn, the promoter for IBF welterweight belt holder Kell Brook, says he had a recent conversation with Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) about a potential fight between Khan and Brook for mid-2016, and Hearn is starting to feel confident that he can make that fight.

He’s now looking to get the 29-year-old Khan to commit to the fight with Brook so that they can start marketing the fight and preparing for it. Hearn old Khan that Brook is going to be moving up to the junior middleweight division after two more fights so that Brook can look to capture a title in that division.

Khan: I want Kell Brook to prove himself, then we have 50-50 fight

khanBy Scott Gilfoid: Despite IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) now scheduled to fight #4 IBF contender Diego Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs) at some point in the near future, Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) still feels that the 29-year-old Brook needs to prove himself against top fighters before he’ll agree to fight him.

It seems that Khan doesn’t rate Chaves as being a big name, and you can’t disagree with that. Chaves isn’t a big name, and a fight against him likely won’t do a whole heck of a lot in building up a future Khan-Brook fight.

Khan’s trainer Hunter wants him to fight Kell Brook

Amir Khan vs Devon AlexanderBy Scott Gilfoid: If trainer Virgil Hunter gets his way we’ll be seeing a fight between his fighter Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) and unbeaten but totally untested IBF welterweight champion Kell “Special K” Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) in the near future. Hunter wants the two fighters to face each other for the good of boxing, as well as the good of the UK.

Hunter thinks it would be a great fight if/when it eventually happens. Despite wanting the fight to take place, Hunter hasn’t put pressure on the 28-year-old Khan to face Brook, because he realizes that he has bad blood with the Sheffield fighter and has his reasons for not wanting to throw him a bone by giving him a shot that he feels he’s done precious little to earn.

Kell Brook believes he’s only one fight away from Amir Khan match-up

brook3By Scott Gilfoid: Despite Amir Khan telling IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn this week that Brook must beat two high quality opponents before he’ll face him in 2016, Brook believes that he’ll be getting a fight against Khan in only one more fight, which Brook and Hearn are planning for October.

Brook thinks he’ll be facing Khan by next summer in a huge outdoor stadium in the UK. But before then, Brook likely won’t be following Khan’s directions of facing a high quality opponent. The two fighters that are reportedly in the running for Brook’s October fight is bottom fringe contender Chris Van Heerden and 2nd tier fighter 40-year-old Leonard Bundu.

Khan sees Kell Brook fight taking place in 2016

khan101By Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan says he met with Eddie Hearn, the promoter for IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook, in his offices to discuss a big money fight between them in 2016. Khan made it perfectly clear that he sees a fight against Brook as a big enough fight to stage at Wembley Stadium in 2016.

Before Khan will give Hearn the green light to make the fight happen with the soon to be 30-year-old Brook, he wants to see Brook start to face some actual live bodies instead of the soft fighters that Hearn has been matching him against – Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin, and Matthew Hatton, Vyacheslav Senchenko – since he took over the helm as Brook’s promoter.
