Beterbiev needs opponent for IBF title eliminator

press conference-0003 - Artur BeterbievBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten #2 IBF, #3 WBO, #4 WBA, #4 WBC light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) is looking for an opponent for him to fight in an IBF 175lb eliminator. The International Boxing Federation ordered a fight between Beterbiev and 50-year-old Bernard Hopkins for the IBF eliminator, but Hopkins failed to respond by the deadline last Thursday.

The other options aren’t looking very good for Beterbiev. According to Dan Rafael, the next available contender is #1 WBC, #2 WBO, #5 IBF Isaac Chilemba, but he’s not likely to take the fight because he’s ranked No.1 with the World Boxing Council and he’s poised to fight in a WBC eliminator bout against Andrzej Fonfara to try and become the WBC mandatory challenger to WBC champion Adonis Stevenson.

Chilemba wants Beterbiev

beterbiev66By Allan Fox: #2 WBC, #5 WBO, #11 IBF light heavyweight contender Isaac Chilemba (23-2-2, 10 KOs) is pushing hard for a fight against unbeaten and untested #11 WBA, #11 WBC Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) for a fight that could take place on the March 14th undercard of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal fight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Chilemba’s promoters at Main Events are interested in making the fight against the 29-year-old Beterbiev. However, the negotiations have not gone anywhere as of yet because Beterbiev’s management hasn’t given him the green light for the fight.

Chilemba’s promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events is very interested in putting the fight together, and she’s just waiting on Beterbiev’s promoters Yvon Michel and Jean Bedard to sit down with her to start ironing out the negotiations.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Isaac Chilemba possible for March 14th

beterbiev66By Allan Fox: A fight between#11 WBA, #11 WBC light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (7-0, 7 KOs) and #2 WBC, #5 WBO, #7 IBF Isaac Chilemba (23-2-2, 10 KOs) is in the works for March 14th as part of a triple-header on HBO as part of the Sergey Kovalev vs. Jean Pascal broadcast, according to Dan Rafael.

Chilemba has agreed to the fight. Now we just need to get the green light from Beterbiev’s promoter Yvon Michel, and then the fight can be put together. It would be a good step up fight for Beterbiev, because Chilemba, 27, is arguably a better fighter than Tavoris Cloud, a recent Beterbiev knockout victim.

Tony Bellew vs. Isaac Chilemba II this Saturday, May 25th in London, UK

bellew4543By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) will be getting what many boxing fans feel is an undeserved rematch against #3 WBC, Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) this Saturday night on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Bellew, #1 WBC, fought to a controversial 12 round draw against Chilemba last March in Bellew’s hometown of Liverpool, UK, and he Bellew looked terrible in that fight, getting beaten to the punch all night long.

Bellew vs. Chilemba II: Will the judges get it right this time?

bellew33By Scott Gilfoid: WBC Silver light heavyweight strap holder Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) and Isaac Chilemba (20-1-2, 9 KO’s) went at it last March with fight being dominated by Chilemba from rounds eight through twelve, but with one of the judges seeing Bellew as the winner by a 116-115 score and another scoring it 114-114 even.

The only just that appeared to be scoring the fight the right way had Chilemba as the winner by a 116-112 score. Unfortunately, Chilemba will have to fight Bellew again in their fight scheduled on May 25th this month on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler II fight card at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

Bellew vs. Chilemba II set for May 25th on Froch-Kessler II undercard at O2 Arena, in London

chilemba32By Scott Gilfoid: Well, promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport has done it. He’s put together a quick rematch between his fighter WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) and challenger Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) for May 25th on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler II rematch at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

The Bellew-Chilemba II fight will get third billing behind Froch-Kessler in the main event and George Groves vs. TBA as the co-feature. In a way that’s a good thing because it could be major buzz-kill for the British fans if Chilemba out-boxes Bellew for a second time and makes him look like a crude slugger again.

Hearn negotiating Bellew-Chilemba rematch for May 25th at the O2 in London, UK

bellew5By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Eddie Hearn openly acknowledged that WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) didn’t look good in fighting to a 12 round draw against challenger Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) last month in Liverpool, UK, but Hearn still thinks Bellew should have won.

The Liverpool crowd seems to have a different opinion altogether because you didn’t hear a peep out of them after the referee announced the draw with the scores 116-112 for Chilemba, 114-114 even and 116-115 for Bellew. I agreed with the 116-112 score for Chilemba because I think he totally dominate Bellew for the last 8 rounds of the fight.

Hearn says he’s now looking to put a rematch together because Bellew and Chilemba for May 25th at the O2 Arena in London, UK. The fight would be on the undercard of the Carl Froch vs. Mikkel Kessler pay-per-view card, although it won’t be the co-feature.

Hearn plans on matching Bellew against Chilemba again

bellew46By Scott Gilfoid: After tonight’s disappointing 12 round draw between WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) and Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, UK, Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport said that he plans on putting Bellew back in with the #3 WBC Chilemba again in the near future so that a winner of the fight can be determined to pick out the mandatory challenger for WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson. And, yes, the rematch will almost surely take place again in Bellew’s home city of Liverpool.

Tonight’s Bellew-Chilemba fight was scored 116-112 for Chilemba, 116-112 for Bellew, and 114-114. I had the fight scored 117-111 for Chilemba, as I thought he clearly out-boxed Bellew pretty much all night long, leaving him hitting nothing but air. I was very impressed with Chilemba’s defensive skills in this fight.

Bellew-Chilemba scored a draw; Matthews-Crolla fight scored 12 round draw

By Eric Thomas: WBC Silver light heavyweight champion Tony Bellew (19-1-1, 12 KO’s) put in a poor effort tonight in fighting to a 12 round draw against Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s) in fighting to a 12 round draw at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Bellew seemed to be in control of the fight in the first five rounds, as he was the aggressor and wasn’t getting much back from the more defensively oriented Chilemba.
