Hughie Fury vs. Dorian Darch this Sunday at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London

fury333By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight Hughie Fury (9-0, 6 KO’s) will be fighting this Sunday against fellow Brit Dorian Darch (7-1, 1 KO’s) in a scheduled 6 round bout at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, in London, UK.

This is a fight that’s pretty much in the same category as Hughie’s two fights against Moses Matovu (4-28-4).

It’s a step down for Hughie from his last fight against cruiserweight Shane McPhilbin, because there’s no way on earth that a limited fighter like Darch would ever beat McPhilbin. Fury was taking some heavy head shots from McPhilbin before he suffered a shoulder injury to his left shoulder.

Fury-McPhilbin: Hughie in dangerous fight on September 14th

fury4By Scott Gilfoid: The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Saul “Canelo” Alvarez bout isn’t the only interesting fight that will be taking place on September 14th. Unbeaten heavyweight hopeful Hughie Fury (8-0, 5 KO’s) will be making his 9th fight of his career against the big slugging cruiserweight Shane McPhilbin (8-7-1, 5 KO’s) on September 14th at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, Yorkshire, UK.

Why is the 6’6” Hughie facing a cruiserweight instead of a heavyweight is the big question. I guess it’s a way for Hughie’s promoter to make sure that Hughie doesn’t lose, because he’s looked awfully vulnerable against the dreadfully weak opposition he’s been in with thus far.

Hughie Fury vs. Shane McPhilbin on September 14th

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (8-0, 5 KO’s) will be facing former British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin (8-7, 5 KO’s) on September 14th at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, Yorkshire, UK.

As bad as McPhilbin’s record is in his six fights, if he lands one of his big right hands on Hughie’s chin, I can see the fight being over straightaway. Hughie would be out cold if he gets nailed flush by one of McPhilbin’s big right hand shots.

That’s why I expect Hughie to be taking no chances whatsoever in this fight by throwing mostly jabs and scurrying away each time McPhilbin even shows a hint that he might throw a punch.

Shane McPhilbin vs. Hughie Fury a possibility

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (8-0, 5 KO’s) could be facing former British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin (8-7-1, 5 KO’s) next, according to Boxing roundup. McPhilbin, 27, has lost five out of his last six fights in the past year and his career seems to be stuck in quicksand ever since he missed out on a 1st round knockout of Enzo Maccarinelli in the infamous fight where the 1st round ended 47 seconds early with Maccarinelli badly hurt.

I don’t believe for a second that Hughie would be fighting a dangerous puncher like McPhilbin at this point in his career. It’s a fight that I could see someone like Deontay Wilder taking when he was 8-0, but I don’t see Hughie taking this fight because Hughie doesn’t have the kind of power that Deontay has going for him.

Hughie Fury’s team made offer to Tony Thompson for fight?

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: According to Boxingroundup, heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury’s team has made an offer to American heavyweight Tony Thompson to fight the young 18-year-old Hughie. Thompson, however, is calling the offer a lie and he’s not happy with people saying that an offer was made to him by Hughie’s team.

Thompson said on his social media site today “@Peterfuy @tyson_fury, this is a f***ing lie. Stop printing this s**t!. Ain’t s**t to clear up. This is some bulls***.”

Oh, this is sad. Does this mean a bogus offer was made just to get Hughie’s name mentioned in the same breath as a talented fighter like Tony Thompson? Gee, that sounds like name dropping in a way. Was Thompson’s name mentioned to get Hughie some badly needed attention in the media?

Hughie Fury stops Perkovic, in sloppy performance

By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (7-0, 5 KO’s) stopped 39-year-old journeyman Ivica Perkovic (19-21, 14 KO’s) in a 5th round retirement on Friday night at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, Ireland. The heavy set Perkovic failed to come out for the 6th round after taking a barrage of body shots from the 6’6” Fury in the 5th round. Fury looked like a slow plodder in the fight, and nothing like what you’d like to see from a young heavyweight. He didn’t look like a young Wladimir Klitschko, Lennox Lewis or Deontay Wilder.
