Hughie Fury only at 30% due to health problem, says Peter Fury

hughie93By Scott Gilfoid: It looks like we won’t be seeing unbeaten heavyweight Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) stepping it up in the near future against any quality opposition.

His trainer/father Peter Fury says young Hughie has a skin problem that is effecting his health, and causing fatigue. Hughie is now getting treatment for the problem to take care of it. But in the meantime, it doesn’t look like we’re going to see the 21-year-old Hughie put in with anyone good in the ring.

Hughie Fury vs. Dillian Whyte ordered for British title

hughie933By Scott Gilfoid: In what could turn out to be an exercise in futility, the British Boxing Board of Control has reportedly ordered Dillian Whyte (16-1, 13 KOs) and unbeaten Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) to fight for the vacant British heavyweight title.

This is the belt that Anthony Joshua recently gave up. Joshua no longer needs the British strap now that he’s the IBF heavyweight champion after his win over Charles Martin. It’s unclear whether Hughie, 21, would agree to a risky fight like this, even though his father/trainer Peter Fury has been talking about how Hughie takes the fights that other fighters don’t take.

The Other Fury: Hughie

hughie93By Daniel Arissol: With the heavyweight division eagerly awaiting a colossal rematch between Tyson Fury and Klitschko, another Fury is quietly making his way up the rankings. Hughie Fury, the 21 year old cousin of champion Tyson, is still undefeated and claimed the WBO intercontinental title on Saturday night via a technical decision against Big Fred Kassi. Hughie Fury (20-0-0 10 KOs) is gaining a reputation as a future prospect and is still has much to learn under the tutorage of his father Peter Fury who also trains Tyson.

Standing at 6ft 6 inches (198cms) and weighing around 230 lbs, Hughie Fury certainly has the frame for the division and, rather more scarily, is still growing. He has speed and power in both hands and is only going to get stronger and more ring smart as his career progresses.

Peter Fury says Hughie Fury was flat against Kassi

hughie933By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Peter Fury appears to be making excuses for his fighter heavyweight Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) not looking good last Saturday night in his fight against Fred Kassi (18-5-1, 10 KOs) last Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. Hughie was having all he could handle from the 36-year-old Kassi until the fight was halted in the 7th round due to the 21-year-old Hughie suffering a cut over his left eye from a head clash in the 6th.

Peter says Hughie was flat in the fight due to Kassi’s awkward style. Peter says that Kassi wasn’t there for Hughie to hit, so that led to frustration on his part. However, in watching the fight, it looked like Hughie went to pieces mentally in the 6th round after getting pursued all over the ring by the shorter Kassi and nailed with some huge headshots.

Hughie Fury defeats Fred Kassi

hughie93By Scott Gilfoid: In a real stinker, unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs) beat high level journeyman Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) by a dull 7th round technical decision win to capture the vacant WBO International heavyweight title on Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. The crowd basically booed Hughie nonstop. I’ve never seen a home fighter booed as much as Hughie was.

That was pretty sad to see. I wonder what Tyson Fury was thinking in watching this spectacle? It’s not as if he could stand up and convince the crowd not to boo Hughie, because after all they had paid their hard-earned money to see what they had hoped would be an exciting fight. It was a fight, but it sure wasn’t exciting.

Weights: Hughie Fury 231, Fred Kassi 233

YouTube video

By Scott Gilfoid: Heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) weighed in on Friday for his potentially nightmarish fight against the powerful Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Fury looked his usual non-muscular self in weighing in at 231 pounds. That’s quite thin for a fighter 6’6”, but Fury doesn’t have a muscular built that you normally see in fighters. I would have to say that Fury’s physique is more like an office worker that shuffles papers than a guy that makes a living fighting.

Hughie Fury battles Fred Kassi on 4/30

hughieBy Scott Gilfoid: The boxing world is going to find out what the tall 6’6” heavyweight Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) is made of this Saturday night in his fight against Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) in their 10 round contest for the vacant WBO International heavyweight title at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

I won’t be surprised in the least if we see a controversial decision in this fight. I really hope we don’t see Kassi, the visiting fighter, on the receiving end of a questionable outcome because that won’t help Hughie any. Hughie has the size to win, but size didn’t help the 6’7″ Dominic Breazeale against Kassi last September. Breazeale has more physical gifts than Hughie, and yet he was getting nailed by big power shots from Kassi all night long.

Hughie Fury bragging about taking tough fights

hughie4By Scott Gilfoid: After three years as a pro, heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) will finally be taking on a decent opponent in the hard hitting and crafty Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) at the end of the month on April 30 at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

The fight will be televised on BoxNation. Hughie is bragging about how he’s taking on the tough fights that no one else wants to take. That’s pretty mind boggling that Hughie would come up with that line because the guy hasn’t faced a talented opponent yet. I mean, Hughie’s last fight against 40-year-old journeyman Dominic Guinn last March.

Hughie Fury could fight for world title by 2017

fury6777By Patrick McHugh: Unbeaten 6’6” heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) could be fighting for a world title within the next six months, according to promoter Frank Warren. Hughie is fighting well and moving his career along steadily with victories over solid fighters.

The 21-year-old Hughie will be taking his biggest step of his career in a little over two weeks from now against the 6’0” Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) on April 30 at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK. The Hughie vs. Kassi fight will be the top of the bill of the card, which will be televised on BoxNation.

If Hughie can get past Kassi and look good in doing so, then it’ll show the boxing world that he’s for real as a potential future world title challenger. Kassi has recently been a problem opponent for fighters like Chris Arrerola and Dominic Breazeale.

Hughie Fury vs. Fred Kassi on April 30 in London, UK

furyBy Patrick McHugh: Undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (19-0, 10 KOs) will be taking a step up in class to face 36-year-old journeyman Fred Kassi (18-4-1, 10 KOs) in a 10 round fight at the end of this month on April 30 in a fight for the vacant WBO International heavyweight title at the Copper Box Arena in London, UK.

Fury-Kassi will be the headliner fight after WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders pulled out of the card with a hand injury. He was supposed to be facing fringe contender Max Bursak.

Kassi, 6’0”, has good punching power, but he’s found himself having problems getting victories lately despite fighting well.
