By Scott Gilfoid: Last Saturday night, British middleweight Nick Blackwell (19-4-1, 8 KOs) took a terrible beating in his 10th round stoppage loss to #2 WBA contender Chris Eubank Jr. (22-1, 17 KOs) at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Blackwell, 25, wound up collapsing after the fight and needing to be rushed to the hospital for a brain bleed. Blackwell is reportedly been put in a medically induced coma to treat his brain bleed.

Hughie Fury vs. Dominick Guinn tonight

hughie545By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) will be fighting tonight against the rusty 40-year-old journeyman Dominick Guinn (35-10-1, 24 KOs) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Nick Blackwell v. Chris Eubank Jr. card at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

The once slender Guinn weighed in at a career high 254.5 pounds at Friday’s weigh-in, and that’s obviously not a good sign for Guinn. He’s only had two fights in the last three years, and he didn’t fight at all in 2014, and had just one fight in 2015. Guinn’s best weight was in the low 220s many years ago.

Hughie Fury vs. Dominic Guinn on March 26

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) will be facing replacement opponent 40-year-old Dominic Guinn(35-10-1, 24 KOs) this Saturday night on the undercard of the Nick Blackwell vs. Chris Eubank Jr. at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

The 22-year-old Hughie was supposed to be fighting the 29-year-old Nagy Aguilera, but he pulled out due to an injury of some sort. Hughie’s management then found the journeyman Guinn to step in with less than a week’s notice. A good fight this is not. The only positive you can say about Guinn as an opponent is the fact that he’s got a good chin and will likely be able to go the full 10 round distance.

If Hughie is interested in scoring a knockout in this fight, then he might want to think twice. Guinn will have no problems taking Hughie’s light punches. If Hughie gets too bold, he might wind up getting knocked out for his troubles.

Hughie Fury in action on 4/30

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) has been added to the April 30th card headlined by Billy Joe Saunders vs. Max Bursak at the Copper Box Arena. The 6’6” Hughie has to get past his next scheduled opponent Nagy Aguilera (20-9, 14 KOs) on March 26 in order for him to fight on the card on 4/30.

Fury-Aguilera fight will be taking place on the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Nick Blackwell fight card at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. It’s supposed to be a winnable fight for the 21-year-old Hughie against Aguilera, but you just never can tell with Hughie.

Fury doesn’t have much punching power, and he’s fighting a guy that can hit a lot harder than him, and who doesn’t mind getting hit himself while he’s trying to take out his opponents.

Hughie Fury is in a dangerous fight against Nagy Aguilera, says Hennessy

fury333By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Mick Hennessy sees his fighter heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) in a dangerous fight this month against journeyman Nagy Aguilera (20-9, 14 KOs) on March 26 at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

While many boxing fans see this as yet another mismatch involving young Hughie fighting a struggling journeyman, Hennessy sees it as a difficult fight and a great match-up. I guess to see things through the same frame of mind that Hennessy sees it, you would have to ignore the 29-year-old Aguilera’s two defeats in his last three fights or his three defeats in his last six fights.

I don’t know how you can characterize Aguilera as being a dangerous fight when he’s clearly been struggling as of late. Yeah, he was beaten by Gerald Washington and Dominic Breazeale, both good heavyweights, but he was still beaten.

Peter Fury says he had problems finding Hughie an opponent

fury5656By Scott Gilfoid: Trainer Peter Fury says they had a number of top class opponents they offered good money to fight unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) for his March 26 fight, but they weren’t interested.

As such, Hughie will be fighting 29-year-old journeyman Nagy Aguilera (20-9, 14 KOs) on 3/26 for the vacant WBC International heavyweight title at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Aguilera appears to be a much better puncher than Hughie.

Aguilera is probably going to need to chase Hughie around the ring if he wants to land anything because Hughie does not like to mix it up. He’s what you call a hit and run type of fighter. He also likes to do a lot of holding in the Wladimir Klitschko type style.

Hughie Fury’s next fight could be announced on Tuesday

hughie4By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury’s next fight could be ready to be announced this Tuesday. His trainer/father Peter Fury says Hughie’s next fight on March 26 could be ready to be announced this week.

Hughie, 21, is fighting on the undercard of the middleweight fight between British champion Nick Blackwell and Chris Eubank Jr. at the Wembley Arena in London, UK. Hughie (18-0, 10 KOs) is supposed to be fighting a top 15 contender.

Peter says they’re sending contracts out again for Hughie’s opponent to look over and sign. 39-year-old Alexander Ustinov was a name that was mentioned recently as a possibility for Hughie’s next fight, but it’s unclear if he’s the guy they’re sending a contract out to or not.

Hughie Fury vs. Alexander Ustinov possible for March 26

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) could be fighting #5 WBA Alexander Ustinov (33-1, 24 KOs) for his next fight on March 26 on the undercard of the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Nick Blackwell fight next month at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

Hughie’s trainer/father Peter Fury says that an offer has been made to the 39-year-old Ustinov and a contract sent out to him. This is only one month’s notice for the 6’7”, 288lb Ustinov.

You would have to hope that he’s in good shape because if not, he’s probably not going to have much time to burn off the blubber to get ready.

Search for Hughie Fury’s next opponent continues

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs) and his team have yet to find an opponent for his March 26th fight on the undercard if the Nick Blackwell vs. Chris Eubank Jr. fight card at the Wembley Arena in London, UK.

According to Hughie’s promoters at Hennessy Sports, he will be fighting a 12 round fight against a top ranked world contender. Hughie’s trainer/father Peter Fury says they had an opponent in mind for the fight, but after he initially agreed to a fee, he raised his asking price by three times.

It appears that Team Hughie will need to look in another direction for his next opponent unless this fighter is willing to come down in his asking price.

Hughie Fury’s management looking for a highly ranked opponent for him

fury433By Scott Gilfoid: Hennessy Sports, the promoter for unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (18-0, 10 KOs), are now looking for a highly ranked contender for the 21-year-old Hughie to fight in February for his next fight. Hughie has knocked out his last two opponents he’s faced, and his trainer Peter Fury believes that he’s ready to step it up a notch by taking on a top 15 contender.

Hughie knocked out 37-year-old Larry Olubamiwo in the 1st round last December. Before that, Hughie stopped Emilio Ezequiel Zarate in the 2nd round. It’s kind of a rare thing to see Hughie knocking guys out, and it’s hard to know if this is because his opponents are so gawd awful or because he’s improved his punching power. Having seen the Zarate fight, Fury didn’t look anymore powerful to me than he usually does.

It’s just that his opponent looked terrible, like someone that had taken up boxing as a hobby and didn’t belong in the ring with young Hughie. As for Hughie’s win over Olubamiwo, we’re talking about a fighter with 17 defeats in his last 18 fights. Olubamiwo was also knocked out in the 1st round by “Big” John McDermott and Jamie Hearn. The fact that Hughie knocked Olubamiwo means little.
